Top Dead Center 2I've read Kevin's articles in Cycle World in the past and thought some of them were insightful and useful. Top Dead Center 1 and 2 weren't that interesting, and mainly recollected racing and motorcycles in the past. There isn't much material covering anything beyond 2000 or newer technology. I've never been a fan of older motorcycles, even though my dad encouraged me to learn about them at a young age. I only got interested in bikes after fuel injection started to become dominant in sport bikes. I remember in high school and college when the Yamaha R1 was still carbureted.One article of interest in TDC 2 was a discussion about Japan's rise in motorcycles. The article was talking about how Japan was only known for cheap cameras, toys, and uncreative copying in the 1950s-1960s. This sounds almost word for word the same as a description of modern day China. What do we think of China in the year 2012? They manufacture toys, and almost everything, and are often regarded by the US as being responsible for "uncreative copying". Well, if this was used as a description for Japan in the 1950s, what do we regard Japan in the year 2012? They are known for making precision instruments, the highest quality steels and metals, high-tech cars and motorcycles brimming with the latest in gear especially with motorsports. They are even regarded as being in the forefront of lean manufacturing. That is a significant change from their reputation 50-60 years ago. Perhaps this is where China will end up in the next 20 years?Other than that, TDC 2 was more of the same with some Rossi worshipping thrown in to the mix.Overall: 4/5 stars

Kevin and Peter Egan are probably the main reasons I keep on subscribing to Cycle World.Full disclosure...I've been car and bike crazy since I was little...and now I'm competeing with the dinosaurs on age.If you're one of those piston heads that puts everyone else at the party to sleep while you discuss BMEP with your fellow addicts you'll just love this. Even if you're more into cars or other vehicles the simplified tech lessons layered through the excellent stories are great entertainmment and learning.Even if you're not tech oriented the stories alone are so well written you'll probably enjoy them.This also has a series of his articles explaining the development of racing car and bike suspensions. You will never find a better tech or history reference on this subject. I dearly wish I had access to this level of info when I was first learning these things.

If you know who Kevin Cameron is and have been reading his stuff since you were a kid wishing you had the money to buy some of the bikes he's had, then you'll appreciate this second edition of his writings.I also have the first book (TDC 1) and both of them are must reading for the motorcycle guy in all of us. Just reading the chapter of frame development over the years and how spark plugs REALLY work makes the book well worth the effort to read it.I enjoy his writing style and as I'm roughly of the same age group, I can remember all of the guys he is talking about.A good read for sure.

Some students are easy to manage. Class flows well and they need only the slightest in adjustments to do what you want/need from them. But what about the others? The ones that respond to "Would you like if someone did that to you?" with "I wouldn't care." This book guides teachers and parents in more effective ways to truly connect and work WITH students to create a plan together that is both realistic and mutually satisfactory. Beyond working with students, this is a way to totally change how you think about problems with ANYone and ways to better work through those problems. I read this book on just a little over a day and would HIGHLY recommend it to everyone.

Excellent book and sound advice. Every teacher, principal and admin should read this. Great for parents who wants to help their children. If your school asks you what they can do to help your child, hand then this book. There is also website you can go to with free information and videos to follow. I'm a fan!

I am not sure what the other negative reviews on this book are about. I have been a fan of Plan B/CPS since Dr. Greene wrote The explosive child. I have worked in the school setting for the past 10 years and I have been able to implement CPS with a lot of persistence and creativity around an extremely academic setting. It has not always been easy, but that is not to fault the CPS process, just how to maneuver around all the needs in a school setting. I am so incredibly grateful that this new book came out. One thing I have found to be the most difficult is explaining this process to teachers and giving them the language to use in these conversations, as they are so use to using Plan A with kids. The language in this book has improved dramatically and I feel as though I can go back to my school with a clear and more direct way of using this with kids. Thank you!

I love this book as an educator, and as a mom. Have read as a book club at my school, and also sent to my sons' school for them to (hopefully) read. Insightful look at behavior & how we can involve children in the process of identifying concerns and finding solutions that work for all. Dr. Greene's ideas just make sense. Highly recommend!

For instance, a citation reading GetYourShitStraight v. RookieMistakes, 123 F.2d 456, 789 P.3d 012, might have the first three digits of the two sources reversed. You plug in the citation and Westlaw or Lexis gives you the wrong case instead of GetYourShitStraight. You ask someone else to check and they come up with the same results. You begin to rethink your career choices and then you decide to swap the digits and, bam, the case comes up. Stupid stuff like that. It's happened a few times, but it's gotten to the point where know what mistakes the author makes and I can guess the correct cite. I should probably just get a new book.

This book is a must for anyone interested in an extensive overview of antitrust. All topics (and there are many) are written in clear, clean, and engaging language. All are followed by examples, which I found invaluable. Extremely well organized and thoughtfully put together, this book is invaluable for students of antitrust, journalists who need to understand antitrust law, as well as professionals.Topics covered include predatory pricing, horizontal and vertical mergers, monopolies, monopsonies, oligopolies, and much more. I have referred to the glossary of terms more times than I can count. While educational and instructive, it was also a great read. Thank you Professor Sagers!!

My antitrust professor and casebook were pretty unclear, for me at least. I used this for creating my outline and to formulate my analysis for attacking antitrust problems on an exam. This E&E was really helpful in that regard—but there aren’t many actual examples and explanations, so if you’re looking for practice problems, this probably isn’t the supplement for you. That being said, antitrust law is all about working through an analysis (market definition, market power, procompetitve justifications, etc.) rather than reaching a concrete conclusion, so practice problems aren’t as important as they might be in other courses. This supplement frames the analysis in an easy to understand manner and discusses all the important cases.

After reading this, know less than when I started. Granted I fell down the stairs and my eyes don’t focus right anymore, and they no longer point in the right direction.Strongly recommended. You better order this or else!

I got this book as I felt that I would need something to complement the poorly written and structured coursebook that my professor assigned for the antitrust law exam. Keegan’s book deals with military intelligence, as distinguished from espionage: little glamour is involved, as these stories are wartime experiences. John Keegan was a military historian. His eight chapters, mostly war stories, provide meaningful lessons about types of military intelligence, where it can be successfully applied, and how it is limited.The book is well organized. Keegan prefaces each episode with rich background, so that the main activities are clearly understood in context. The background is itself, a short history lesson. Keegan then describes the type of intelligence featured and how it was applied. At the episode’s conclusion, Keegan analyzes the value of the intelligence in that particular situation.Keegan’s episodes span across history from Napoleonic times through World War II, revealing the wide applicability of his lessons. Keegan then adds a chapter on intelligence since World War II. He concludes with an overall analysis on the value of military intelligence.Surprisingly, Keegan concludes that in war, intelligence often fails its expectations. Information about the enemy, his location, and his plans is often either difficult to obtain, misleading or misinterpreted, or less important than the forces being employed. Even in the Battle of Midway, a near-perfect case where broken codes revealed the Japanese fleet’s intentions, the ultimate victory owed much to chance.Not everyone will be tolerant with Keegan’s thorough development of his episodes, but few will be disappointed with his attention to detail. His lessons are instructive and his revelations bring his scenes to life.

As a history major who served for 30 years as a field artillery with 12 years overseas including a combat tour in Vietnam, I have read and enjoyed several of John Keegan's books. As a senior officer, I had tours of duty as defense attaché at our embassies in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and New Delhi, India. I thus have some idea as to how information is acquired and processed into actionable intelligence. Following my Army career, I taught high history for 13 years including a course on Military History.The first eight chapters, including Napoleon, Stonewall Jackson, wireless in World War I, and four examples from World War II, were insightful concerning how intelligence has been collected, used, and misused. As an American, I particularly enjoyed the chapters on Jackson and Midway.The Epilogue, "Military Intelligence Since 1945," seemed rushed, as though the author was under pressure to quickly complete the book and turn it over to the publisher. The coverage of the Falkland War deserved its own chapter. Since Al-Qaeda was included in the title of this book, I was disappointed that it only received two pages in the Epilogue. Perhaps, the author was trying to make the book more relevant to today's reader with the title.The Conclusion, "The Value of Military Intelligence," was too long and seemed a bit pedantic in comparison with the rest of the book."Intelligence in War" deserves a place in the library of serious students of military history.

This is a very diffuse book taking far too much verbiage to make the authors point. The admiral nelson Mediterranean debacle made a point but it should have been made in a few pages. Likewise Stonewall's valley adventures could have occupied <¼ the space to the advantage of the book. ( However, I must say that this is one of the best accounts of the campaign I have encountered.) The entire book would be much better if it was more to the point and less wordy. He left out Yardley's contribution and Hoover's reaction which had major consequences. He deals only consequently with the mideast post the Gulf War and he leaves out the impact of modern real time intelligence.His point that intelligence is a tool and not a decisive victory is well made. As is his secondary point that covert action needs to be separated from intelligence gathering.

Sir John Keegan, the defense editor for "The Daily Telegraph" and one of the foremost military historians writing in English today, has turned his attention to an important but regularly overlooked topic--the role of military intelligence in combat operations. He argues that political intelligence is an ancient craft that goes back almost as far as recorded history, but military intelligence has until the last 200 hundred years or so had limited impact on the battlefield due to the technological challenges of getting information to a commander and then to units in the field. Intelligence was mainly the work of scouts.In a series of case studies starting with the naval operations of Lord Nelson, Keegan argues: "Intelligence, however good, is not necessarily the means to victory; that ultimately, it is force, not fraud or forethought, that counts" (p. 334). Two of the most striking examples he uses are the battles of Crete in 1940 and Midway in 1942. At Crete, the British had accurate signals intelligence telling them what the Germans were going to do and they still lost. At Midway, the Americans had equally good information on what the Japanese intended, but random chance was the key to U.S. victory. The American planes that sank three of the four Japanese carriers were lost and found the enemy fleet by accident at a time when their defenses were ill prepared for another attack.These arguments are important. We use this book at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College where I currently teach. Keegan's ideas are revisionist but also seem straight forward. The title is accurate. This book focuses only on military intelligence in war. The subtitle is a bit misleading. There is next to no mention of al-Qaeda in the book. Keegan is an exceptionally easy read, but he raises some significant questions which is always a good combination.

I read this book to my students after observing seashells. I chose to read it after because while observing, they had some questions, such as why some shells had holes in them, and this book answered those questions! It could be used either for children reading on their own, or as a read-aloud in class. The pictures are big and colorful. It's a wonderful book with great images and information for all ages!

Great photos, informative at a level my 3 year old could understand and I even learned a thing or two. My 3 year old is obsessed with seashells and is been wanting to buy this book a while. It didn't disappoint!

Fabulous pictures and great non-fiction text perfect for young children! My students love finding the shells in our collection that match the pictures in the book....thanks!

Bought this for my adult son who is a dancer in the big city. He was thrilled to get this book! Good quality book, with great pictures.

great information with great visual appeal. I personally feel the author should have had a separate category for Jazz dance. I think Musical Theater does cross-over with Jazz and Tap but I feel Jazz deserves it's own recognition.

What a comperhensive and beatuiful book for any lover of dance

I’m not a fan of dancing myself, but I loved this book. I portrays dancing styles as a way of studying the history of the USA, from the Colonial era to present. If you look at all the different styles, you’ll see that they reflect the norms and mores of the time, along with class distinctions and the nation’s economy.The book starts with Native American dancing, which probably resembles the Jewish ones than European. The men and women danced separately, and it was usually ceremonial or religious in nature. The idea of men and women dancing together is something that originated in Europe, and came to the continent with European settlers. However the European dances would become a source of trouble, though humorous at the same time.When the Louisiana Purchase was made in 1804, it brought French settlers under Anglo-American control, and the dances became a source of conflict. The French wanted the Quadrille, and the English-speakers wanted English country dances. The communities had to pass ordinances regarding dancing in public places, including one that limited English dances to 12 couples. They didn’t want to start a fight with the French by crowding the dance floor!The book progresses with constant-changing styles that became common after the Civil War. New York City was home to the country’s best-known dancing school, owned by Edward Ferrero, who created the styles on his own. You could say he set the standards regarding dances, but he also was responsible for thousands of deaths. During the Civil War, Ferrero was put in charge of the New York troops, on the basis of his choreographing parade drills. He was drunk during the battle of Petersburg, and sent his men running into a crater, where they found themselves trapped and massacred by the Confederates. Ferrero’s incompetence in battle didn’t kill his career though; he made a fortune as a dance instructor after the war.The dancing styles of the nation reflect the changing immigrations and attitudes towards others. Tap dancing came from the Irish jig, and thanks to Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, became popular with movie audiences. Swing dancing became popular in the Great Depression, as dance hall owners were under pressure to fill the space while charging as little as possible. Disco was imported from Europe, break dancing began as a non-combat competition between gangs, and MTV helped popularize hip-hop moves. Perhaps you could say that movies and TV were a major influence on styles in the USA?I’m not going to give away anything else from this book, because it’s a pleasure to read and I wouldn’t want to ruin the experience. Biographies, photos, and all kinds of historical background are included.

Wow. I'm not a dance expert, but we've have been avid attendees at fine dance company performances for 30 years—everything from classic ballet to folk dance. This book is such a fine companion for anybody who enjoys any type of performance dance— virtually everything I might expect to find is here, and it's already a standing feature on my coffee table. And I've just purchased a second copy to give to friends of ours who are also dance buffs. I can't recommend this highly enough. It's utterly comprehensive, and exhaustively illustrated. A fine, fine book.

This book is stunning. Each chapter has been meticulously researched and reflects the authors incredible knowledge of the subject matter and deep love and reverence for dance. Well done!

Louise Levison (www.moviemoney.com) has a 28-year track record creating business plans for films (both single and slates) and other entertainment companies. She teaches in the Extension Program at UCLA and is publisher and editor of The Film Entrepreneur: A Newsletter for the Independent Filmmaker and Investor. Her clients have raised money for individual films with budgets from $100,000 to $30 million and slates with budgets totalling up to $300 million. She regularly conducts workshops on financing for organizations and at film festivals. Levison holds an MA in Asian Area Studies and an MBA in finance.

I do not write reviews. But with this sorry excuse for a HOW TO BOOK I feel obligated. I was writing a business plan for a film and so I bought this book hoping it would help. To make a very long story short IT DID NOT HELP. The woman who wrote this book is by no means an expert as she has not produced any notable movie at all. The examples she gives in her narrative are all obsessively based on CATS! Yes, CATS! All, literally, ALL HER MOVIE EXAMPLES OF WOULD BE FILMS are all based on stories about cats and cat titles. It is borderline insane with how many times she mentions cats. I am not sure how a book like this ever got published as any real info given is quite basic and common sense in business practice. I ended up writing a business plan on my own and with help from a few actual professionals and I succeeded in a great business plan. If you want to write a business plan, buy any other book but this one.

BUY THIS BOOK. If you are an independent filmmaker and want to learn about film financing from a truly accomplished expert, then by all means, purchase this book and every new edition that comes out.Louise is a fantastic mentor and her book has become a mainstay... I had the opportunity to attend two workshops featuring her, as well as a private consultation and she is definitely an experienced, grounded voice in the field of film finance.Her book clearly lays out everything you need to know about writing a business plan for your independent feature film and it provides clear examples and reasoning for why things are done the way they're done.By all means, this is a MUST-READ for every independent director, producer and filmmaker.

"Filmmakers and Financing..." is pretty good at helping you piece together a business plan for making a film (or creating a production company) and is better than a lot of the material on the web related to general business plans because it deals with issues specific to films and the filmmaking business. On the other hand, another reviewer has suggested that the book wasn't specific enough and that the example "fictional" business plan didn't seem to have enough substance. I agree with that comment. The author, who helped the "The Blair Witch Project" folks with their business plan, could have suggested some real-life examples (tough to walk the fine line drawn by naturally protected "proprietary information"). It's nice to see what a multi-million dollar production company business might look like, but I have to say that if I'm going to handle that kind of money, I'm probably going to retain a consultant to help prepare my business plan--maybe even the author! It's a good review of things you should know. Glad I read it. I think I'll pass it along to the next person.

I bought this book to get detailed information about how to build a business plan for my start up Film Company. I was very excited when I saw the overview of this title and the fact that it now included a CD-ROM.After going through the entire book in just a few days (I must admit it's a quick read) I found that the explanations were just slightly above basic knowledge and the CD contains only a few forms and worksheets to fill out. The best chapter (Chapter 10), which has a sample business plan, is NOT included in the CD-ROM! This was a complete disappointment since I expected to use this as digital blue print to fill in the blanks for my own business plan.All things considered I did learn some useful principles on how to prepare and present information to potential investors and how to analyze some number (getting them boils down to research and a lot of work, which the Levison herself will admit to) but I really expected more out of the author of the business plan for the Blair Witch Project.

An informative read that breaks down how to create a business plan to get film funding. Easy to read and follow.
