I picked this up after I'd already beaten the game, and I'm glad I didn't have the distraction of all the goodies buried in the guide to drag out my already very long campaign.Extremely helpful if you're chasing all of the optional objectives in the chapters. The walk-throughs are immensely detailed, with step-by-step instructions, including pictures, and tips for finishing each Chapter in each play type. Most chapter write-ups are in the Ghost style, avoiding all killing and knock-outs. That doesn't mean that there aren't sidebars to explain how to get through the chapters if you're trying for Opportunist or Predator endings. There are also detailed City walk-throughs, split into 5 sections that match up with where the city undergoes major changes within the game. For example, City I is the city after Chapter I. City II is the city after Chapter 3 (I think... going from memory here!), etc. As you discover areas of the city via the chapter stories, or the city changes because of actions of the chapters, the guide has a City walk-through to guide you.The treasure walk-through is anal-retentively detailed! (Loot, Collectibles, Documents) Everything is numbered, starting at 1 and numbered in an order that makes sense by how you would encounter than in the game. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get it, it is extremely powerful in getting you through to Completionist!I like this guide, so I gave it a 5, however there are some mistakes.Chapter 4 - A Friend in Need. There is a gear that you need to obtain when you're down in the pipeline. The guide tells you to jump down on the 1st unstable platform, and then jump across to the 2nd one, then run across it before it has a chance to fall to the pipe below. That isn't correct! You have to jump down to the 1st unstable platform, and then SNEAK completely across the 2nd platform. It took me about 30 tries to get that stupid little gear!! Save yourself some sanity. If you're going for Predator or Opportunist and dealing with Freaks - don't bother with anything other than Blast Arrows if you plan on killing a Freak directly. One Blast Arrow will down a Freak. However, you will use 2 or more Fire Arrows trying to kill Freaks by shooting them, even using headshots... Even with headshots using the Marksman skill (which uses too much Focus, IMHO). Save the Fire Arrows for those nifty "oil slick" shots that will nab you Opportunist points. And don't even bother with non-fire-based arrows. (Flash Bombs are fun.)The Guide has nothing in it about those eerie candles that you light using Fire Arrows all over Stonemarket. (The glowy talking ones...) From what I've read, once you find all of them, you get a Focus Point. I'm guessing that's why I have 1 Focus Point left to be upgraded and the Queen of Beggars won't let me buy anymore upgrades. Somewhere, I'm missing a candle!A tip, this is in the guide, however not obvious right away as its buried in the walk-throughs... don't waste your expensive arrows on knocking crap down! Use your Blunt Arrows to do that kind of thing. (Lights, ladders, etc.)One thing I wish the Guide had and it doesn't... How to make enough cash to afford the expensive equipment. I'm redoing all of the chapters and side missions, but I've only made about 3 grand. Admittedly, I like to shoot stuff, but with the amount of treasure in some of those chapters, you'd think I'd be making progress...

Been on my wishlist for awhile, happy to have found a decent copy at an affordable price!

This strategy guide is full of errors. I expected more from Prima as their guides have been pretty spot-on in the past. Beyond that, they did a nice job with the item checklists and walking you through the most efficient way to get each piece of loot in the city.

Good intro, shows every level, and the tricks of the game too! Highly recommended to anyone wanting to beat the game with everything getting done in every level.

Very fun guide and written in a playful thought provoking style. The game is awesome and while most guides end up in the trash once the novelty wears off I think this is a keeper.

This was just what I needed. Since I am obsessed with finding everything, and after doing a level so many times a person can get a bit nuts without a little help.

There are numerous errors in the book, everything from incorrectly marked locations to bad advice to completely ignored items/events. When I shell out money for a game guide I expect it to be free of errors and as complete as possible.

Very nice tool to go with the game. It helped me get through some sticky areas.

This book was GREAT! I had no idea that Elizabeth was such a proactive (and prolific!) Queen. There is so much that we don't know about our English history (or at least we didn't go this far back when I was in school). I love how Philippa Gregory incorporates her research into her novels. She brings her characters to life.

I don't know what genre to place this book in. Stripped to its essence, I would have to say that this is a romance. It just happens that it takes place in the historical setting of the battle for the English throne known as the war of the roses. As such, it contains all the elements of an adventure novel as well as some aspects of a mystery. It also contains aspects of magic and witchcraft. What this book is not, and never professed to be, is a history book. The White Queen is the story of Elizabeth Woodville, the commoner and former Lancaster supporter, who married the newly crowned Edward IV from the house of York. They married in secret, for love, and kept it quiet for a time because marriages during that time among nobles were arranged for political alliances. Told mostly in the first person from Elizabeth's point of view, the book starts in 1463 when Elizabeth first meets Edward until 1485 when Edward's brother Richard III holds the throne. The book was meticulously researched and contains an extensive bibliography (for anyone wanting to read the history.) By using the first person, Ms Gregory is filling in the thoughts of Elizabeth as well as the behind the scenes dealings in the king's court. These are not historically accurate, nor were they ever portrayed as such. One can only guess what went on behind the scenes as no historical documents exist to tell us, and with all the backstabbing going on I am not surprised that nothing was put in writing.Another nice touch added by the author was the introduction of magic to the story. Elizabeth's mother claimed to be descended from Melusina, the water goddess who was half woman and half fish. Melusina's legend exists in many cultures and is probably most well known as that of a mermaid. This legend is woven into the events of the war of the roses masterfully, and Elizabeth and her mother are both accused of witchcraft at one point or another. Whether to believe or not is left up to the reader. If you enjoyed Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon as I did, then I think you will also enjoy The White Queen. They are both similar in that they are first and foremost love stories. The main difference is that there is no time travel in this book. Instead, the reader is transported to the fifteenth century and sees life through the eyes of Elizabeth Woodville.

Typical Gregory fashioned telling of the story of the York Queen and her rise from widowhood. Unfortunately it is this rise that cause so much turmoil within the York house. The War of the Roses/Cousins War is complicated enough, but then the York divided upon itself due to petty jealousies supposedly much caused by this secret marriage. Elizabeth was not someone to be trifled with and when wronged, her curses were sure to cause the torturous death of those that perpetrated them. but they tended to have a potential side effect of putting someone she loved in danger as well. Not sure if some of her problems were self fulfilling prophesies. This story did not have the emotional detail that some of her other stories. It was definitely based a bit more on fact and since that story was full she did not embellish as much -- and that part of her amazing story telling was missing

This was the first I've read by Philippa Gregory. (Yes, really!) I enjoyed the glimpse back into fifteenth century England a lot. This is the first book in Gregory's Cousin's War series, known to history buffs as the War of the Roses. This is also the first book I've read set in that time period, and Gregory successfully drew me back five and a half centuries. What a fascinating and tumultuous time during England's history. The viewpoint character is Elizabeth Woodville, who became Queen of England when she married Edward IV. I became absorbed in Elizabeth's life and that of her mother, and their fascinating blend of Christianity and witchcraft. Were they really like that? I don't know, but Gregory certainly convinced me. My only complaint is there were several longish passages of exposition where the viewpoint character relayed historical events in an almost textbook-like fashion -- albeit an interesting textbook! -- and I found myself skimming to get to the next time Something Happened.I absolutely loved the section dealing with the Princes in the Tower. Elizabeth was the mother of those princes, so we get to know them through a mother's eyes. Gregory does not buy into the commonly held notion that they were murdered by their uncle, Richard III. In high school English class I wrote a term paper on the subject, and I agree with her. She states her case convincingly.Even with the long passages of History Telling, I enjoyed the book enough that I bought the second in the series.

This version DOES NOT HAVE CONNECT ACCESS. If you need that access, you will have to pay another $105.00 directly to McGraw Hill, making the cost of this book ~$263.00. Make sure you buy "Macroeconomics with Connect", that will be about $227.00. Still a complete ripoff, but you're still saving money.

Going through "Macroeconomics" (tenth edition), I simply can't get past how self-indulgent the book is in respect to its author.I'm roughly seven chapters into it right now for a class. I don't believe it would overstate to say that the author has referred to himself in the first person at least a dozen times; some with anecdotes relating to macroeconomics and some not seeming to at all. If our course includes a quiz about whether the textbook author personally thinks that GDP calculations are discriminatory, questions involving how he views himself as economic theorist, or on how he waxed philosophic about his own writing style, I'll get an "A" for sure.Only... (heart sinking) 32 chapters to go.

I laughed, I cried, I felt motivated to stimulate fiscal policy in order to restore the economy to normal levels.Seriously, all good. The electronic version was received instantly and worked well. I do prefer normal books so I can see graphs and tables on the facing pages. At least for text books

I enjoyed this textbook. I didn't think it was boring like most textbooks. It gave real world examples which I expected since it's economics but still, I enjoyed that. I didn't feel like sleeping like I did with my accounting textbook. I think its a good textbook and does a good job explaining macroeconomics. I took my course online and got an A and I feel like this textbook helped me learn a lot. I look forward to taking Microeconomics with the same type of textbook this next semester.

I got this for my micro class. It's a great read. It's witty, interesting, and doesn't put you to sleep. It was in great condition too. I'm on a quarter system so I was able to return it before the due date which was fantastic.

I appreciate this book being digital, having my tablet haul around several textbooks and taking up just a few Mb is just plain worth it. The book itself is easy to read and comprehend, the only issue I had was the fact that it resembled my microeconomics book too much. Almost like I can reference each other's book and not have any issues faling behind in my courses.

It's a textbook. Exactly as described. Don't get too excited.

The book was returned. My son accidentally had it shipped to my house in Washington.. He is living in California going to school. He decided to get the book electronically thru his Fire Kindle.

I have gotten at least four Frommer's guidebooks before and it's always been quite good. Until I got this one, the first ever NOT in the Day-By-Day series. What a huge mistake. First, this book doesn't have a street level view of the entire area. You know, the one they always have in the Day-By-Day book? Then everything is pink. Not exactly color map, but pastel pinkish maps. It is so hard to look at it. I don't think I have ever gotten pissed off from a guidebook before, but this one definitely got to me. Finally, there is no picture... of anything. Just lots of words. I don't want a guidebook with words! I'd get a history book in that case. I don't want to look for words in a paragraph when I'm lost in Hong Kong! I want pictures, maps, characters that'll help me find things ASAP. I'm done venting about this book. Just don't get this book. I'm returning it right now.

The pullout map of greater Hong Kong has a laughable error. It indicates the entire Hong Kong Island is less than 1/2 mile long. Hope that was fixed in later editions.

The reading is not only informative but very interesting. I read a lot of information on travel. When I'm planning a trip I generally read or brouse at least two or three guides. I've always found Frommer's to be reliable and the most informative.

Excellent guide

It's a great book, but the fold-out map is useless. The map is basic and almost generic looking. Buy it for the book, not the map.

Must for travel or moving to SE Asia

Just back from Hong Kong and of the three guide books I took, Frommer's was the most helpful. The restaurant suggestions were great. The maps accurate. The walking tours terrific. The only downside is that the design of the book is ugly. Really ugly. Also wish that it included information about the two closest cities in China - Guangzhou and Shenzhen so I could have left one of the guides home.

I follow pricing literature quite closely. Each book has its value, but many times it can drop rather quickly into the weeds of economic theory. This author is not afraid of complexity, but her does know how to create value for the reader. Pricing discipline for profit does drive everything and it is always wiser to maintain profit over volume. The analyses he presents with the multiple real world examples ( and you will likely recognize most of them) builds a very readable book in a genre that too often is not known for readability. Again I am struck by the contrast between firms understanding that they need to deliver value to a customer to stabilize/grow their profits, yet in North America it is all about commission sales based on volume, not profits. Every CEO, CFO and Sales manager should read this book.

Very good but also a bit long and theoretical, i.e. a lot of less-useful stuff mixed in with real insights and gems. Could be about half as long and twice as useful. But still worth going through for insights, especially for various situations and concepts such as bundling, differentiation, segmentation, and several counter-intuitive elements.

Very insightful, and full of useful case stories about pricing in different industries. As a pricing scientist in IT company, I would like to recommend this book to everyone who wants to sell digital products without any physical form and has to make a decision about pricing without any reference.I give it 4star because there are editing issue in Kindle edition. many words with "... s" are white spaced and sometimes it can be very bothersome.

In the domain of pricing literature, there is nothing that touches Hermann Simon’s seminal book “Confession of the Pricing Man.” Interspersed with dozens of stories and examples, bringing together theory and practice, Simon lays a cogent and coherent roadmap to pricing excellence. Simon’s passion for pricing is contagious, inspirational and highly motivating. This incredibly valuable, informative and eminently digestible read is a must for those seeking to improve the performance of their organization and those interested in exploring the intriguing world of pricing.

Someone recommended this to me, and I learned much more than I could have predicted. Simon goes into great detail on how pricing works, and how to think about pricing in the most productive ways. It was easy to understand, and I enjoyed each chapter.

I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Simon speak recently. He is amazing and so is his book. Every business owner needs to understand the principles of value proposition design and value extraction through price. And he is the master at pricing.Don't get dragged into the black hole of market share or gross revenue. Pricing for profit is the only sustainable solution.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! it's full of examples of different pricing models, pros and cons of each model, and things to watch out for when changing pricing models.

Hermann Simon makes the case that pricing is the #1 key to growing bottom line profits but very few companies focus on this very aspect of their business. I loved this book so much that I read it 3 times and took copious notes. One of the best business books I ever read.

Before I purchased this book on Square Foot Gardening, I knew a little about the theory but was not sure about the rest of the details. Pleased to say that this ebook helped me to get a better grasp of the basics, as well as some handy tips on Companion Planting techniques that I can use even with my traditional vegetable patch - including good advice on Beneficial herbs and plants that you DO NOT want to grow together. There are some handy diagrams/pictures that give some examples of how to plant out your SFG, or for that matter Raised Bed Garden, as well as a good chart with the numbers of vegetables you can grow in each square foot.To be honest, some of the gardening information is fairly common knowledge to anyone who has grown veggies before - but that has to be expected I suppose when the author is trying to reach out to a broad market.Growing vegetables organically has always appealed to me, and so the detailed sections on making good compost as well as organic 'tea' and how to control pests without chemicals was especially welcome. All in all, I consider this an excellent introduction to SFG which has encouraged me to dig deeper into this concept.UPDATE. Here are some great results using the SFG techniques described in this book!

This year I decided to try all the different gardening tricks since all my kids have finally grown up and moved out. I have a lot more time to do the gardening. This is a wonderful way to do a quick garden plot that is easily laid out. I used 5x4 foot which gave me 20 squares, which I used purple string and stapled it to the top of the box to make my 12x12 squares. I installed a trellis (made with 1/2 inch conduit, which I spent the money on the bender tool and I tell you, that was a great investment!,) YouTube has wonderful direction on how to use the bender tool, and then how to make a trellis using that conduit and also how to tie the nylon line.I mixed up my own soil with the compost, peat, perlite, etc. Nice fluffy, I planted peas (against the trellis) carrots, bok choi, spinach, lettuce. It was very easy to grow, and then replant when the bounty of the square was eaten. It is the hardest part of my gardening, since the other things I'm trying is the Dutch bucket system (you tube it, I already have tomatoes in 28 days) the rain gutter system (you tube) and the kratky hydroponic (YouTube). The reason I say this is because it's so close to the ground, knees can't deal with that anymore. So next year I will probably build a couple of 3 foot off the ground raised beds, so I don't have to get down on my knees to weed. The veggies were great, lettuce had to deal with the slugs as always but that's remedied with slug bait or beer.So 5 stars from me, not going to ding for my bad knees, but it is a decent system for a small area.

This book as been extremely helpful with creating my organic garden in my backyard! I have so many pictures, however unable to upload them at this time.

This book covered not only the concept of square foot gardening, but also included crop growth, timing, composting, and rotation. Everything one would need to be successful in this endeavor. Kudos to these authors. This is an excellent resource to have on hand.

Great little book ! As an avid gardener i know how to garden but love new info. Great particular info on plants, companions, and specific needs

Great book full of lots of good information

informative

Much better detail about companion planting than other books I purchased. Overall provides a good overview of square foot gardening. This is not my go to book on my shelf when looking up information.

George MacDonald in the Age of Miracles: Incarnation, Doubt, and Reenchantment (Hansen Lectureship)

Book Description

"Victorian writer George MacDonald was a powerful influence on later authors such as C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, G. K. Chesterton, and Madeleine L'Engle. In this fine collection of lectures, scholar Timothy Larsen provides an essential context to MacDonald's life and thought, and indeed to the religious history of the nineteenth century. With his acute literary and theological insights, Larsen's book is a readable and perceptive guide to one of the great Christian thinkers." (Philip Jenkins, Baylor University)"Drawing widely on George MacDonald's novels, stories, poems, and sermons, Larsen boldly presents him to us in all of his heterodoxical orthodoxy. Here is a fiery Scotsman with a capacious faith and vision who could find Christ in the most unlikely of places." (Louis Markos, professor in English and scholar in residence at Houston Baptist University, author of On the Shoulders of Hobbits)"These lectures are steeped in a scholarly acquaintance with George MacDonald's writings. Their accessible style aims at bringing MacDonald's theological insights on such ever-pressing matters as religious doubt and the purpose of human suffering to a wider Christian audience." (Elisabeth Jay, professor emerita at Oxford Brookes University)"Rarely, if ever, does a theologian grasp the essentials of luminaries such as C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, George MacDonald, G. K. Chesterton, and Madeleine L'Engle. But here, in this exquisitely argued, beautifully crafted, and elegantly written thesis, Timothy Larsen offers a beguiling mediation on incarnation, doubt, and re-enchantment. With his careful and nuanced focus on George MacDonald, Timothy Larsen has produced a poised, sumptuous, and sublime theological essay―worthy, indeed, of Lewis, Chesterton, Tolkien, L'Engle, and MacDonald. This is Christian apologetics at its best and from one of the finest public intellectuals writing in our time." (Martyn Percy, Christ Church, Oxford)"Larsen has an original, interesting, stimulating, and even at times, controversial take on George MacDonald and his work." (Stephen Prickett, regius professor emeritus of English at the University of Glasgow, and president of the George MacDonald Society)"It is hard to imagine a better pairing of author and subject than George MacDonald, one of the essential Victorians and one of the deepest of Christian writers, and Timothy Larsen, one of our very finest historians. This book is truly a joy to read." (Alan Jacobs, distinguished professor of humanities in the honors program at Baylor University)"In this gem of a book, Timothy Larsen uses the delightful and moving writings of George MacDonald to open surprising new vistas on the religious world of Victorian Britain. I recommend it highly." (Thomas S. Kidd, distinguished professor of history at Baylor University)"In a Victorian religious culture saturated with religious preoccupations and moral anxieties, George MacDonald stands out as a relatively neglected author whose work nonetheless pays careful attention to the intersection of religion and literature. Tim Larsen brilliantly opens up MacDonald's imaginative writing as well as his sermons and essays to demonstrate how closely he followed contemporary interest in Christian doctrine and the challenges it faced in his day. No one who knows Larsen's work will be surprised at this: with wit, knowledge, and an acute critical intelligence, Larsen picks out again and again the ways in which MacDonald's fiction illustrated or experimented with controverted points of Christian doctrine, yet still functioned as good, readable fiction. A series of other interlocutors comment insightfully on Larsen's chapters and open up further seams of interpretation. For anyone interested in Victorian religious history and literary culture, this is a gem of a book." (Jeremy Morris, master of Trinity hall at University of Cambridge)

Dr. Larsen has done it again! Meticulously researched, soundly argued and highly readable. Larsen’s McDonald is a faithful take on the Scottish minister whose literary fantasy influenced a whole generation of English writes i.e., C.S. Lewis. I highly recommend it for those interested in knowing what the Age of the Incarnation is all about.

This is the third book I've read by Tim Larsen. I interviewed him on the other two books. There is so very much to like about this book. I will simply list out four of my favorite things about the book:Some shorter books like Larsen's pack in plenty of content. If a lecture series becomes a book (as is the case with this book), there is a better than average chance that the smaller size book will have great content. You can see this with books (from another lecture series) like Andrew Delbanco's fascinating, The Real American Dream. Larsen's book does not disappoint as it offers the reader plenty of material.Even though there is much content, the writing is lucid and engaging.Larsen is an eminent historian of nineteenth-century Britain. You can always count on him to do careful archival work and know the primary sources. This book showcases those strengths.Larsen is sensitive, as was George MacDonald, to Christians who struggle with doubt. As one who knows firsthand these struggles, I greatly appreciate Larsen's treatment in this book.Perhaps it is too late for a Christmas present, but how about a present for yourself for the new year?!

George MacDonald was a nineteenth century Scottish preacher, whose works had a profound influence on C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkein, G.K. Chesterton, and Madeleine L’Engle. This book is a collection of lectures about aspects of MacDonald’s life and thought. Timothy Larsen is the author of most of them, but James Edward Beitler III, Richard Hughes Gibson, and Jill Palaez Baumgaertner. All of them are scholars at Wheaton College. The back cover of this book states: “Larsen explores how, throughout his life and writings, MacDonald sought to counteract skepticism and to herald instead the reality of the miraculous.” Well, not entirely, at least not according to my impression. The book is excellent, but, if you are expecting MacDonald to be presented as a classical Christian apologist, you may be disappointed. MacDonald celebrated doubt as a possible path to authentic faith, in an age when people were starting to become more publicly honest about their doubts concerning the Christian faith. MacDonald was also a romantic, who believed that nature could inspire the worship of God, but who shied away from arguments for the existence of God that appealed to nature. At the same time, in one passage in this book, it is speculated that MacDonald may have regarded one of his character’s gullibility regarding fairy stories as preferable to wholesale doubt, as the former view is more enchanting.I have read some of the works with which the book interacts, in Michael Phillips’s edited versions. Still, this book taught me a lot that I did not know before. Larsen talks about how the celebration of Christmas changed throughout history, and how MacDonald’s thought interacted with that. MacDonald’s surly personality is a prominent point of discussion in this book, as one of the essays argues that MacDonald’s failure as a pastor was due, not to his unorthodox beliefs, as that did not stop conservative churches from inviting him to speak. Rather, he was simply a bad pastor, who really wanted to be a poet. Imagine Sheldon Cooper in the pulpit, only with the desire to be a poet. Although MacDonald repudiated Calvinism, he still had a robust view of divine providence, viewing afflictions (even his own) as purifying agents from the hand of God. But he also had the idea that a person’s doctrinal beliefs could somehow influence his or her physical health, which reminded me of “Word of Faith” teachings. When the book discussed topics that I had encountered before, it did so in an edifying and insightful manner. This includes MacDonald’s belief in postmortem cleansing and his preference for the Gospels over other books of the Bible, even though he did not reject the other biblical books. The book does not agree with MacDonald’s universalism. Larsen cites MacDonald’s view that God will utterly purify people in the afterlife before letting them into heaven and remarks that one need not be a universalist to appreciate the value of holiness. Maybe, but how many will become perfect for heaven in this life? Baumgaertner then offers her own Lutheran perspective, saying that “we cannot pursue” “holiness and sanctification” but “can accept it as it is freely given to us through Christ and respond in gratitude with good works” (page 132).The book perhaps could have gone into a little more detail about how MacDonald thought nature pointed to God, by giving examples. Still, this is an informative and edifying book.I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My review is honest.

Timothy Larsen puts on full display his sublime abilities as a historian to uncover the religious beliefs and life struggles that serve as a chief guide for MacDonald's literary works. While Larsen's prose is rather academic, he uses enough stories and examples for the lay reader to access and enjoy the ideas found within. In particular, I enjoyed the chapter on Incarnation and how Victorian England moved its theological center from Easter to Christmas over the course of the nineteenth century. This backdrop explains MacDonald's personal emphasis on God as Father and the role of childhood and fantasy in his writings.
