Samamtha Smith's life is turned upside down by a couple things. First her job at the civic vented she works at is put in jeopardy and she meets legendary figure skater Jimmy Lloyd. Not just meeting the man but hitting it off with him as well. But nobody especially not her sister would ever believe she has been hanging out with the man. Will she lose the job she really loves or is she headed for even more heartache then that? This was a very well written novel by a fairly newly discovered author.
Samantha appears to have an almost high functioning level of autism.Her struggles with changes to routine, life, work are described with empathy and understanding.Her sister struggles to care for her while finding true love of her own (bit of a tramp really).Her workmates - I think we can all think of people we know like them.Her love interest, which the reader picks up on before she does, is gentle & understanding. He accepts her for who she is and helps her cope with the challenges ahead.I started this book with the intention of just reading a few pages before going to sleep..... I stayed up until I finished it, even though certain parts made me want to put the book away in disgust.The ending left me with a huge smile and on a feel-good high!
I liked the story. Parts were annoying or redundant. The roommate I didn't care for. Maybe she was the sister. I can't remember. There's a decent amount of "awww" and intrigue.
The "saving myself for I don't know what" girl encounters the star of the ice skating show. While Jimmy is dealing with the Hollywood tabloid scene, he encounters an unlikely friend with Samantha. They have their own way of dealing with their issues but they find out that they do it better together. This was very comical, romantic and disastrous all at the same time.
I read another story by this author and I really enjoyed it. This one, I enjoyed less. Sam is sweet and well meaning yet also a total doormat. The story itself was good but Sam was not a character it was easy to feel sympathy for or empathize with, but Jimmy was. Cleo's character made me almost not want to finish the book. The story was well written and light.
A very light hearted romance, which is very enjoyable to read, another good one from Mandy Baggot.
In Breaking the Ice, Maggie's characters face a variety of obstacles to finding love, but find it they do, in a fun lighthearted read. You'll empathize with Samantha and Jimmy, perhaps get frustrated with Cleo and Jeremy, but be satisfied with the happy ending.
This book was very endearing and entertaining. The writing made the main characters very relateable and as you are reading, you can really sympathize with them. I would definitely recommend this book.
