This is the first book in a new series called Road Devils MC. It's a fast-paced and standalone book that will keep you engaged from start to finish. There's action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, twist/turns, enemies, survival, intrigue, humor, mystery/secrets, surprises, family, friends, conflict, confusion, kidnapping/abduction, trust, loyalty, anger, fear, romance, passion/lust and love. This MC is a different type of club; it's a front for what they actually do ---save innocent people from exotic trafficking and other injustices done to them.Part One: in this story we have a vampire who rescues people that are being preyed on by other vampires. That's how he meets a human female who is trying to rescue her suster.Part Two: this story is about a bear shifter who is always seems to be mean looking and acts grumpy, and the female who was rescued from a demon, left for dead and pregnant. Can't wait to read the next book in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a new series focused on a motorcycle club called the "Road Devils", comprised of shifters, vampires and warlocks. Their bad reputation is a front for what they really do – they save the innocent from exotic trafficking and other injustices. This review briefly covers the first two episodes.PART 1:Helena Anderson stepped into the dim lighting of the bar and noticed the walls were dirty and had a smattering of blood here and there that spoke of its sordid history. It was the same bar where her sister and a young blonde girl had disappeared two weeks earlier. Supernatural creatures hung out here, most actually “halvesâ€: half-vampire, half-shifter, half-warlock, half-witch. They were bastards not acknowledged by the pure supernaturals and left to survive on their own. She sat there sipping her drink and listening to the conversations, waiting to find someone who was a pure supernatural and not a half. The bartender tried to warn her to just go home for her own safety. But her sister was her only remaining family. Then she saw the bartender stiffen as his eyes moved past her to the door. A pale, handsome man walked up beside her, and she forced herself not to flinch at the vampire who was suddenly at her side.Helena left the bar with the vampire and, before she realized his intention, he was biting her neck, her last thought of how she hoped this wasn’t her last day alive. She woke, chained on a couch – and getting her nails filed?? The girl doing her nails told her Lord Jasper had saved her life and she would now be his servant. She wasn’t sure what that meant, but she followed instructions and took a tray to the last room in the south wing. When Helena meets a vampire named Archer, a member of the motorcycle club “Road Devilsâ€, she finds someone who is willing to work with her to find her sister, Lola. Will they save Lola? Will Helena make it out of there alive?PART 2:Rebecca Munham worked quickly in the kitchen, cooking up a huge breakfast before the cook arrived. When Martha saw everything and asked about it, Rebecca told her she couldn’t sleep and suggested Martha add to the meal to make it even better. She knew that pleased the cook who liked to feel in charge. When Rebecca left the kitchen to find other activities to keep busy, she heard familiar voices and a nagging instinct warned her to investigate. She opened a door and ducked as a fireball crashed… and two twin boys, almost 4 years old, tried to explain what was going on as they almost burned down the room. (You are definitely going to fall in love with Timmy and Tommy!) Because they apologized easily about what they had done, she suspected this was not the first “practice room†they had visited… and it wasn’t. So she sent them off to the kitchen to see Martha for their breakfast while she did damage control elsewhere. After breakfast, they would get to apologize again to their leader! Finally heading to her garden to take care of it, Rebecca heard a scraping sound. She opened the door and saw a tall man with tattoos of little bear cubs on his chest. Lock Damza had always fascinated her because the man was huge with tons of muscles! But that wasn’t what shocked her now – he had blood all over him!As you can readily see, it’s another busy day for motorcycle club members! This series will introduce us to all of the members (eventually) and we have the joy of seeing the ones we know from earlier stories mingling among them. The story lines are awesome, as is typical for this author. Well-written, exciting, and great world building is offered to the reader. The characters are amazing, even the secondary ones. And those twins, they keep you laughing! Don’t miss this wonderful series. This is the start of an exciting adventure and you’re invited to join the gang!
The reviews for this were pretty good and the story summary sounded interesting so I got it in KU.There are two stories, first is Archer and Helena and second is Lock and Rebecca. The biggest cons of these stories for me are the total lack of world building and setting the the scene. The writer just dives right in and you are clueless as to things are supposed to be or why. Frankly from the ways things are set out here, I’m surprised there are even any humans left. There are quite a few potential triggers here; kidnapping, human trafficking, rape etc. Those are laid out in the summary but the amount of it was more then expected for me.The grammar and editing errors made it harder to follow. The characters were the best part for me. There was enough there to get involved with them but just not enough for me to read more.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.3.5 starsPart One - 3 starsHelena is seeking to rescue her sister so gets herself taken as a servant/slave of a master vampire. While trying to find her sister in the vampire mansion and keep herself under the radar she attracts the attention of Archer, a vampire. Together Helena and Archer seek to topple the vampire slave ring and save Helena's sister. I felt like I was missing too much background on Helena (and to a lesser extent on Archer). Did Helena have a job or something else in her life she left behind to go after her sister? There doesn't seem to be any concern about going back to her previous life, no worry about finding a new job, or any of the other more mundane things I would expect to see. This story felt a little stilted at times (probably that first in a new series drag), more so in the second half of the story than the first.Part Two - 4 starsI liked the flow of this story more. Lock and Rebecca have at least a working relationship and then slowly build into a relationship during the story. I think they complemented each other well during the story. I think because both MCs have been at the sanctuary for so long I had less of the issues with missing background that bugged me with the first story. I thought Tommy and Timmy were really cute (even if they came across as really developed for their actual age). The plot flowed well and introduced some more characters that I hope will get their own stories eventually. With both stories I feel like I might be missing a piece of the world-building that would make some of the rest of the story make more sense. Not sure if I'm missing something in the story or if it is something that will be expanded on in future stories.
