Bought these for a second grade kids group project on the Lost City of Atlantis - the story is very circular (Plato is telling the story about how he was told the story and than in turn was told by someone else - etc) - hard for me, much less this age group, to keep track of. That said, it does list the main background and theories about the Lost City of Atlantis so with adult guidance, we were able to learn what we wanted to. And it's the only one I could find so I was grateful to have it to use to teach.
We visited Sea World and rode the Atlantis ride, which sparked an interest in the subject. Unfortunately it was difficult to find children's literature on Atlantis; most books covered a variety of ancient mysteries or were make-believe stories. This was the most comprehensive book we found for elementary age children. For independent reading I'd subject 3-4th grade, but I've read this aloud countless times to my 2nd grader and he is now trying to wade through some of it.
Son loved it!
Perfect for curious young readers. Good pictures, great for reading level in early 3rd grade.
As an adult who is interested in Atlantis, I enjoyed the information in this book. My eight year old daughter, however, was totally disinterested.
and all the other DK Eywitness books I bought for my great grand son. He also loves it and I intedn to buy him all of the books.
Great book for my second grader. He was fascinated. The cover is misleading. It makes it look like the book is about sea creatures. It's not. It's filled with interesting facts about the lost city. Worth buying.
Good
