After reading many books on the Rangers, it was very refreshing to read something I hadn't seen before; History from the prospective of those who called the games. It was very interesting to see how greats such as Sam Rosen and Don La Greca felt when hockey history was happening right before their eyes. The author, Matthew Blittner does a great job blending in the right amount of player commentary from Ranger Legends such as Rod Gilbert and Mike Richter to keep me interested and enthralled the entire length of the book. This is definitely a must-read for all hockey and Ranger fans, new and old alike.
This book provides an excellent view of rangers’ history from the people who covered it. Any rangers fans will be thrilled to reminisce about some of their best memories as fans.As an avid sports fan this book reminds me of the reason we watch sports in the first place; to watch spectacular athletes achieve incredible results through hard work, perseverance and teamwork. The author does an excellent job of weaving together the stories and provides a compelling and easy to read look into rangers history.My favorite chapter is the Rick Carpinello description of game 6 of the eastern 1994 eastern conference finals. It’s about leading by example, and fighting when your back is against the wall
Having known Matthew his entire life I can truly hear his voice in the non interview segments. His knowledge of the history of the franchise, both recent and from before he was born is pretty amazing.As far as the interview subjects go he knows when to get out of their way and let them paint a picture for the reader.

It also sheds some light on those personalities that bring the games into our homes. It’s a very entertaining read that would be a great addition to any Ranger fans’ library.
