Nourishing Traditions is primarily a cookbook that includes introductory and contextual information about traditional diets. While Nourishing Diets includes many recipes that aren't in Nourishing Traditions, I wouldn't characterize it as a cookbook. The recipe section is about 40 pages long and includes recipes for grains, soups and stews, nutrient-dense snacks, organ meats, cooking with blood, seafood, vegetables, fermented condiments, and desserts I am excited to try. It comes after almost 200 pages of detailed information on ancestral diets.  We learn about the nourishing diets of the Australian Aborigines: The Most Paleo of Them All, Native Americans: Guts and Grease, The Far North: Seal Oil and Whale Blubber, The South Seas: Abundance and Beauty, Africa: The Land of Fermented Foods, Asia: Variety and Monotony,  Europe: The Foods We Like to Eat. In addition Sally writes about "True Blue Zones: How Long- Lived People Really Eat", and "What to Eat? Translating the Wisdom of Our Ancestors into a Healthy Modern Diet". Nourishing Diets does include highlights of Dr. Weston A. Price's research, yet it expands far beyond it with a wide variety of references and geographic areas. For those of us who have a keen interest in how people nourished themselves historically, I highly recommend this book as an incredibly well-researched companion to Nourishing Traditions.  Having said that, I want to clarify that having the book Nourishing Traditions is not necessary to read and understand Nourishing Diets. My point is for all of us who already have Nourishing Traditions, this new book is different enough that I think it is a very worthwhile read. I found it to be very well-written and quite fascinating! Even though I have read a fair amount on this subject, I learned a lot more! We will read the book as a community in our Nourished Book Club on Facebook now that it has been released!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learned so much about the ancestral cultures. I am a student of history, genealogy is my hobby and I'm a devotee to cooking. To put all of my favorite things in one easy to read book is delightful. I am on my second read of the book because I want to make sure I pick up all the details. This book will be extremely helpful for someone eating in the Ancestral Way. Fad diets come and go but the old ways endure among those willing to seek them out.

I love history and really enjoyed reading about the traditional foods and their preparation of cultures from around the world. This book is full of interesting information, but is very easy to read and understand (not technical). Sally also includes a lot of interesting footnotes throughout the book to further explain various parts. It's also clear the author has a sense of humor. There were a number of times I laughed out loud reading this. The book is mostly information about the cultures, divided into a separate chapter for each. At the end of the book, it summarizes how to apply this knowledge in our own lives and includes recipes. She also references a number of books throughout and has a very long bibliography of books I will probably be looking up in the future. One author I was happy to see a mention of in the chapter on the American Indians is Charles C. Mann. I have read his 1491 book (here on Amazon; a fantastic book) on what the Americas were really like before Columbus. It's very eye-opening, and I wish the information was known by the masses. I was very happy to see that Sally included his information rather than just going with the "mainstream" fake knowledge that the Indians were all tree-hugging hippies living in the midst of thousands of miles of virgin wilderness. This book is mostly information, not solely a cookbook. If you want more information about traditional diets, read Weston A. Price's book, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. And if you want more recipes, check out Sally's books about broth or Nourishing Traditions.

I found Sally Morell's NOURISHING DIETS fascinating. As CEO of the National Billiard Academy, diet is extremely important for athletes, so I read much about diets. This book takes all the guess work out of what we should be eating because Sally has done incredible research. It's also an easy read if you like history and learning about people's all over the world and then learning that there is a common denominator to all the diets - fat. Thank you Sally for another great book.

It was well written and ultra fascinating. The thing that stands out to me and resonates is the variety of foods all these different cultures ate. Yet, I consistently read from mainstream media how we once used to eat mostly plant-based foods. All these wild and interesting foods they ate are nothing I've ever heard before, but whole-heartedly believe it. They had to eat from the land and ate what was available. Surely, lots of plants, but not primarily as mainstream media would have us believe. I love Sally's books. I own every single one and frequently refer to them. Thank you very much for educating me.

This well written book on traditional diets around the globe is an enjoyable, informative read. The book is thoroughly researched. Not some low fat hype about what various countries supposedly ate, but footnoted evidence as ti what they really ate.

I've been using Nourishing Traditions original book for many years. This was an interesting background book, although not quite the necessity that Nourishing Traditions is.

Want to eat well and get healthy? This is the book for you.

From the Back Cover

The first edition of Inevitable Revolutions, published ten years ago, was widely hailed and quickly became a bestseller. Now, completely revised and updated--one third of its contents are entirely new--Walter LaFeber brings to a new generation of readers the story, in Arthur Schlesinger's words, 'of a long and squalid history of U.S. exploitation and intervention combined with neglect-a history whose consequences we are reaping today.'

How anyone could give this book just one star is mind-boggling and beyond comprehension. In the minds of America's neocon, military-obsessed leadership that was paranoid of anything remotely "Communist" after the Vietnam debacle, Central America offered a pathetic opportunity to erase some sordid memories. In fact, the author could have written a sequel that included Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil ("Operation Condor"). Latin American history is one chapter after another of misguided U.S. policy -- you can toss in some Democratic presidents, too. The bitterness south of the border still exists today, and it's no wonder. Now I am going to read Galeano's "Open Veins of Latin America," taking the western destruction of Latin America back another four centuries. I live in a community that is nearly half Latino, and I am ashamed of the way U.S. has treated their countries in the past. To cavil over a few excerpts over LaFeber's book bares one's decidedly anti-liberal and anti-populist bent and merely comes off as quibbling with another embarrassing piece of U.S. foreign intrusions. They happened in the Middle East, Asia and Africa, too.

REad the earlier edition, and this one is better. More info, and more analysis based on time to view the ongoing results. Why people don't like americans is very simple. Our foreign policy is geared toward deceit, duplicity, and exploitation. Very basic and not rocket science. The concepts and principles outlined in this book are applicable to any place in the world America goes. Problem: Haliburton, Kellog Brown and Root, inconsistent intelligence operations, american corporate exploitation, corporate contractors, unreliable foreign policy, disrespect for other cultures. We can't change the world. We have to adapt to it. We are not the big boys on the street we used to be.

Intriguing look into U.S. involvement throughout Central America.

Somewhat dense, but nevertheless very interesting and intriguing.

"A reader" wrote a scathing review of this book, which actually inspired me to read it. "A reader" obviously has never read the book, and relies on the back cover quotes to critique the entire book. He uses the common "mistake" defense: if America causes a atrocity, it is a "mistake".This typical, preprogrammed, ideological, response just shows "a reader" has never read the book. Lafeber meticulously goes through the ENTIRE history of Central America and shows that America's support of dictators and the frequent American intervention is not a "mistake". Americas foreign policy instead is a very successful and profitable policy for American business interests and a small Latin American elite."it is very clear that this is agenda history or left-wing propaganda more than it is history."When you boil down what "A reader" is trying to say is that if this book does not sing the praises of Americanism (the religion of Americans), he will not read it."but if you are writing a "history" book be fair and objective and not so obviously political."What "a reader" means is a "history" which praises America, similar to high school textbooks. A history which ignores or justifies away all of America's massacres. If a history book doesn't have this tone, "a reader" will not read passed the back cover, nor unfortunately, will most Americans, to our neighbors to the south's detriment. Thanks "a reader" your mindless Americanism encouraged me to read this book!

I wish there was a newer edition to this text. LaFeber tells a poignant and accurate story of contemporary history in Latin America, and how U.S. foreign policy helped to shape the region's socio-economic and political life for the worst.

All the myths and misconceptions of Latin America are explained in great detail in this book. A great read! No doubt about it. I'm seeing things in a different way now for sure.

Is a good book for known the relationship between United States and Central America during a good part of the independent life of this little nations and your importance to the "empire"

From the Back Cover

"If you've watched your parents get divorced, you know how much it stinks. A lot of times there's blame, anger, frustration, confusion, fear, and a ton of other emotions and issues that come up--just as much for you as for your parents. But you don't have to hold on to those emotions anymore. In this six-week study, you can begin healing from the hurt you experienced when your parents split up--whether it happened recently or when you were younger. You'll have a chance to hear stories of other people's experiences with divorce, look at what the Bible says about family and marriage, as well as anger, guilt, and forgiveness, and explore what you're feeling in the midst of it all. In the end, you'll begin to heal as you find some hope for the future. Your family has changed. There's not much that you can do about that. But you can change your heart as you begin to let go of the pain you've been carrying."

Empty, by Suzanne Weyn

From School Library Journal

Grade 7–10—Everyone knows that we will eventually run out of oil. Weyn takes readers 10 years into the future to the small New York town of Sage Valley to show just how that might feel. Gwen, Tom, Carlos, Niki, Brock, Hector, and Luke have the same problems as many typical teens. Outsiders Gwen and Luke have never known their father and now their mother has gone missing. Rich cheerleader Niki is trying to choose between two guys. In their world, though, gas is 40 dollars a gallon and rising. America has invaded Venezuela, the last country on Earth thought to have oil reserves. Food and medicine are scarce, the economy is a shambles, electricity can't be counted on, and now Hurricanes Oscar and Pearl have combined to form a superhurricane that is headed up the East Coast. Weyn's future has a grimly plausible feeling to it that will draw in readers. She does resort to a deus ex machina to save the day, and the characters and situations aren't fully fleshed out. Still, this should be of interest to those who appreciated Saci Lloyd's Carbon Diaries 2015 (2009) and Carbon Diaries 2017 (2010, both Holiday House) and any teens who wonder just what the world that they will inherit might look like.—Eric Norton, McMillan Memorial Library, Wisconsin Rapids, WI (c) Copyright 2011. From Booklist

In a not-so-distant future, the U.S. is at war with Venezuela over dwindling oil reserves, and global warming has created a super-hurricane causing destruction up and down the East Coast. In the gloom that is the end of the world, several teens are trying their best simply to survive. Gasoline is scarce, electricity comes and goes, and there is very little food to be had in the wake of the storm. Gwen, abandoned by her mother years ago, is trying to evade authorities looking for her brother, who was selling black-market gasoline; rich-girl Niki, whose father lost his job, has never had to face adversity in her life; and Tom, an all-around hero who lost his father to an illness, complete the love triangle. Though the characters and dialogue are sometimes routine, the realistic and thought-provoking scenario is packaged into a speedy read, and given the popularity of dystopian fiction, it should find an audience. We really have no idea how much we rely on fossil fuels in this world. When I think of a gas shortage, I think of having to cut down on driving, but really had never thought of just how many products are petroleum based, from toothpaste to ball point pens. Our reliance on fossil fuels is terrifying, and Empty by Suzanne Weyn shows just how quickly everything can fall apart.Sage Valley is your average town full of middle class folks who work hard every day and live their lives as though nothing in the world will ever drastically change. When a global-wide oil shortage begins, however, they are in for a rude awakening. Suddenly kids are biking to school. Sports teams stop because they can't drive to the opposing schools. Gas costs $40, $60, then $90 dollars per gallon. People can't heat their homes. Medicines are in short supply. Food deliveries stop. Very quickly, people start to get desperate.Tom is your average second-string football player who only worries about his crush, head cheerleader Nicki. When the gas shortage begins, his biggest concern is not being able to drive her home. Nicki's biggest concern is having to wear her glasses because there haven't been any deliveries of her contacts to the pharmacy in a long time. Gwen has gone from the outcast to the only kid who has a warm house thanks to her brother's black market dealings. As if the gas shortage wasn't the worst problem, the climate change is finally about to get the better of them. Two enormous hurricanes from the gulf coast and the East Coast merge and make their way up the East to practically destroy everything in their "superhurricane" path. Disaster relief is virtually nonexistent in the current times, and Sage Valley is left to survive by its own devices. This is not only a story of how everything falls apart (although that is certainly in the foreground). It is also a story of how tragedy brings people together. How people in dire circumstances can become selfless. Heroes even. It is also a story of how things need to change if we are to survive. Towards the end of the story, the kids find a "Green" house that was built to be self-sustainable with low amounts of electricity, food production, and heat. Are we prepared for what is going to happen when the non-renewable resources we gobble up are gone?In the deluge of apocalyptic books these days, this is a fairly good one, especially for adolescents. It directly deals with their lives and can be an eye-opener for just how drastically their worlds can change. Sometimes it is hard for kids to understand how things truly affect them, like wars, natural disasters, etc., until they are in their backyards. This book puts the disaster in the worlds of these kids. It is also a fairly short, low-skilled book that would be perfect for younger or low-skilled students. The plus is that it isn't nearly as depressing as some of the stuff out there. Sure everything changes, but that doesn't mean it needs to be the end of the world! We can still find ways to survive, even in circumstances we never thought we would face!

I had high hopes when I picked up this book. The plot/scenario sounded interesting - no matter what side of the "green" debate one stands on, I don't think anyone can deny that oil *will* run out some day, whether it's in the near future or a few generations from now - and I've grown used to young adult books dealing with dystopian, apocalyptic or just plain disaster plots in an intelligent and decently written way.So, yes, "Empty" held a lot of promise for me. Unfortunately what it turned out to be was a book that read like a lecture aimed at ten-year-olds (or perhaps eight-year-olds), certainly not young adults - although the half-hearted attempt at romance and characters in their later teens seemed to indicate otherwise. The language and narrative style were so simplistic it was hard to get truly interested and the lecturing, the "message" came through so hard and clear that it occasionally nearly turned me off (and I'm by and large a supporter of the ideas being promoted here). That's not to say the book was *all* bad - it was a quick and at times not completely dull read, and the characters, while not exactly engaging or with a huge amount of personality, weren't off-putting. Might be a decent read for a child / pre-teen who is interested in saving the planet and life without oil, I suppose.

We used this book as a book study in my 8th grade science classroom. The book started out really great, but the huge hurricane seemed to come out of nowhere. My kids were super annoyed with the ending.

This author has shown the tragedy and hope of our depletion of nonrenwable resources. So many people disregard concerns today in terms of this situation. An excellent read for students!

Received this book in excellent brand new condition. This was purchased as required reading for my daughters science class.

This book was very interesting to read for me. I noticed many other reviews said this book is poorly written, but also that the reader did not finish the book. I will admit that in the beginning, the book is dull and lacked dialogue. Apparently, the author had never heard of the expresion"Show not tell." But as the book progressed, things started to happen and get more interesting. It was almost as if the bad author left off in the middle of the book and another better writer took over. I overall enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it to anyone who is willing to bear through the first few chapters and not just give up on it.

This is a very good book but very short. This is not to say, however, that it does not make a lasting impression. This highly probably dystopian future spells out our dependency on non-renewable energy sources and makes a compelling argument for alternative energy sources. Complex, relatable, characters who develop as the book goes on. Enjoyable!

I had this book last year and lost it while I was in the middle. I just had to buy it again so I could finish it!

I picked this up after I'd already beaten the game, and I'm glad I didn't have the distraction of all the goodies buried in the guide to drag out my already very long campaign.Extremely helpful if you're chasing all of the optional objectives in the chapters. The walk-throughs are immensely detailed, with step-by-step instructions, including pictures, and tips for finishing each Chapter in each play type. Most chapter write-ups are in the Ghost style, avoiding all killing and knock-outs. That doesn't mean that there aren't sidebars to explain how to get through the chapters if you're trying for Opportunist or Predator endings. There are also detailed City walk-throughs, split into 5 sections that match up with where the city undergoes major changes within the game. For example, City I is the city after Chapter I. City II is the city after Chapter 3 (I think... going from memory here!), etc. As you discover areas of the city via the chapter stories, or the city changes because of actions of the chapters, the guide has a City walk-through to guide you.The treasure walk-through is anal-retentively detailed! (Loot, Collectibles, Documents) Everything is numbered, starting at 1 and numbered in an order that makes sense by how you would encounter than in the game. It takes a little getting used to, but once you get it, it is extremely powerful in getting you through to Completionist!I like this guide, so I gave it a 5, however there are some mistakes.Chapter 4 - A Friend in Need. There is a gear that you need to obtain when you're down in the pipeline. The guide tells you to jump down on the 1st unstable platform, and then jump across to the 2nd one, then run across it before it has a chance to fall to the pipe below. That isn't correct! You have to jump down to the 1st unstable platform, and then SNEAK completely across the 2nd platform. It took me about 30 tries to get that stupid little gear!! Save yourself some sanity. If you're going for Predator or Opportunist and dealing with Freaks - don't bother with anything other than Blast Arrows if you plan on killing a Freak directly. One Blast Arrow will down a Freak. However, you will use 2 or more Fire Arrows trying to kill Freaks by shooting them, even using headshots... Even with headshots using the Marksman skill (which uses too much Focus, IMHO). Save the Fire Arrows for those nifty "oil slick" shots that will nab you Opportunist points. And don't even bother with non-fire-based arrows. (Flash Bombs are fun.)The Guide has nothing in it about those eerie candles that you light using Fire Arrows all over Stonemarket. (The glowy talking ones...) From what I've read, once you find all of them, you get a Focus Point. I'm guessing that's why I have 1 Focus Point left to be upgraded and the Queen of Beggars won't let me buy anymore upgrades. Somewhere, I'm missing a candle!A tip, this is in the guide, however not obvious right away as its buried in the walk-throughs... don't waste your expensive arrows on knocking crap down! Use your Blunt Arrows to do that kind of thing. (Lights, ladders, etc.)One thing I wish the Guide had and it doesn't... How to make enough cash to afford the expensive equipment. I'm redoing all of the chapters and side missions, but I've only made about 3 grand. Admittedly, I like to shoot stuff, but with the amount of treasure in some of those chapters, you'd think I'd be making progress...

Been on my wishlist for awhile, happy to have found a decent copy at an affordable price!

This strategy guide is full of errors. I expected more from Prima as their guides have been pretty spot-on in the past. Beyond that, they did a nice job with the item checklists and walking you through the most efficient way to get each piece of loot in the city.

Good intro, shows every level, and the tricks of the game too! Highly recommended to anyone wanting to beat the game with everything getting done in every level.

Very fun guide and written in a playful thought provoking style. The game is awesome and while most guides end up in the trash once the novelty wears off I think this is a keeper.

This was just what I needed. Since I am obsessed with finding everything, and after doing a level so many times a person can get a bit nuts without a little help.

There are numerous errors in the book, everything from incorrectly marked locations to bad advice to completely ignored items/events. When I shell out money for a game guide I expect it to be free of errors and as complete as possible.

Very nice tool to go with the game. It helped me get through some sticky areas.

This book was GREAT! I had no idea that Elizabeth was such a proactive (and prolific!) Queen. There is so much that we don't know about our English history (or at least we didn't go this far back when I was in school). I love how Philippa Gregory incorporates her research into her novels. She brings her characters to life.

I don't know what genre to place this book in. Stripped to its essence, I would have to say that this is a romance. It just happens that it takes place in the historical setting of the battle for the English throne known as the war of the roses. As such, it contains all the elements of an adventure novel as well as some aspects of a mystery. It also contains aspects of magic and witchcraft. What this book is not, and never professed to be, is a history book. The White Queen is the story of Elizabeth Woodville, the commoner and former Lancaster supporter, who married the newly crowned Edward IV from the house of York. They married in secret, for love, and kept it quiet for a time because marriages during that time among nobles were arranged for political alliances. Told mostly in the first person from Elizabeth's point of view, the book starts in 1463 when Elizabeth first meets Edward until 1485 when Edward's brother Richard III holds the throne. The book was meticulously researched and contains an extensive bibliography (for anyone wanting to read the history.) By using the first person, Ms Gregory is filling in the thoughts of Elizabeth as well as the behind the scenes dealings in the king's court. These are not historically accurate, nor were they ever portrayed as such. One can only guess what went on behind the scenes as no historical documents exist to tell us, and with all the backstabbing going on I am not surprised that nothing was put in writing.Another nice touch added by the author was the introduction of magic to the story. Elizabeth's mother claimed to be descended from Melusina, the water goddess who was half woman and half fish. Melusina's legend exists in many cultures and is probably most well known as that of a mermaid. This legend is woven into the events of the war of the roses masterfully, and Elizabeth and her mother are both accused of witchcraft at one point or another. Whether to believe or not is left up to the reader. If you enjoyed Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon as I did, then I think you will also enjoy The White Queen. They are both similar in that they are first and foremost love stories. The main difference is that there is no time travel in this book. Instead, the reader is transported to the fifteenth century and sees life through the eyes of Elizabeth Woodville.

Typical Gregory fashioned telling of the story of the York Queen and her rise from widowhood. Unfortunately it is this rise that cause so much turmoil within the York house. The War of the Roses/Cousins War is complicated enough, but then the York divided upon itself due to petty jealousies supposedly much caused by this secret marriage. Elizabeth was not someone to be trifled with and when wronged, her curses were sure to cause the torturous death of those that perpetrated them. but they tended to have a potential side effect of putting someone she loved in danger as well. Not sure if some of her problems were self fulfilling prophesies. This story did not have the emotional detail that some of her other stories. It was definitely based a bit more on fact and since that story was full she did not embellish as much -- and that part of her amazing story telling was missing

This was the first I've read by Philippa Gregory. (Yes, really!) I enjoyed the glimpse back into fifteenth century England a lot. This is the first book in Gregory's Cousin's War series, known to history buffs as the War of the Roses. This is also the first book I've read set in that time period, and Gregory successfully drew me back five and a half centuries. What a fascinating and tumultuous time during England's history. The viewpoint character is Elizabeth Woodville, who became Queen of England when she married Edward IV. I became absorbed in Elizabeth's life and that of her mother, and their fascinating blend of Christianity and witchcraft. Were they really like that? I don't know, but Gregory certainly convinced me. My only complaint is there were several longish passages of exposition where the viewpoint character relayed historical events in an almost textbook-like fashion -- albeit an interesting textbook! -- and I found myself skimming to get to the next time Something Happened.I absolutely loved the section dealing with the Princes in the Tower. Elizabeth was the mother of those princes, so we get to know them through a mother's eyes. Gregory does not buy into the commonly held notion that they were murdered by their uncle, Richard III. In high school English class I wrote a term paper on the subject, and I agree with her. She states her case convincingly.Even with the long passages of History Telling, I enjoyed the book enough that I bought the second in the series.

This version DOES NOT HAVE CONNECT ACCESS. If you need that access, you will have to pay another $105.00 directly to McGraw Hill, making the cost of this book ~$263.00. Make sure you buy "Macroeconomics with Connect", that will be about $227.00. Still a complete ripoff, but you're still saving money.

Going through "Macroeconomics" (tenth edition), I simply can't get past how self-indulgent the book is in respect to its author.I'm roughly seven chapters into it right now for a class. I don't believe it would overstate to say that the author has referred to himself in the first person at least a dozen times; some with anecdotes relating to macroeconomics and some not seeming to at all. If our course includes a quiz about whether the textbook author personally thinks that GDP calculations are discriminatory, questions involving how he views himself as economic theorist, or on how he waxed philosophic about his own writing style, I'll get an "A" for sure.Only... (heart sinking) 32 chapters to go.

I laughed, I cried, I felt motivated to stimulate fiscal policy in order to restore the economy to normal levels.Seriously, all good. The electronic version was received instantly and worked well. I do prefer normal books so I can see graphs and tables on the facing pages. At least for text books

I enjoyed this textbook. I didn't think it was boring like most textbooks. It gave real world examples which I expected since it's economics but still, I enjoyed that. I didn't feel like sleeping like I did with my accounting textbook. I think its a good textbook and does a good job explaining macroeconomics. I took my course online and got an A and I feel like this textbook helped me learn a lot. I look forward to taking Microeconomics with the same type of textbook this next semester.

I got this for my micro class. It's a great read. It's witty, interesting, and doesn't put you to sleep. It was in great condition too. I'm on a quarter system so I was able to return it before the due date which was fantastic.

I appreciate this book being digital, having my tablet haul around several textbooks and taking up just a few Mb is just plain worth it. The book itself is easy to read and comprehend, the only issue I had was the fact that it resembled my microeconomics book too much. Almost like I can reference each other's book and not have any issues faling behind in my courses.

It's a textbook. Exactly as described. Don't get too excited.

The book was returned. My son accidentally had it shipped to my house in Washington.. He is living in California going to school. He decided to get the book electronically thru his Fire Kindle.
