I came across this book when reviewing another book for single moms. Jennifer did such a great job telling her personal story combined with wise guidance into many areas every single mom faces. I could not stop reading her book until I finished it. Being the same age as her, my childhood did not have the trauma she experienced, however I was facing the same challenges she did when in 2011 I found myself completely on my own with a four year old holding my hand and a three year old hugging tight my leg. Having my family in Central Europe and spending three years at home on maternity leave, made this transition even more intense. I remember my mind racing like a wild horse: "How am I going to provide for all three of us after 3 year break from a work force? How am I going to pay for the daycare? It is costing almost the whole paycheck!!!!" The truth is that God always showed me a way out of seemingly impossible situation, I just did not realize it during the first years. After two years stumbling as a single mom feeling like swimming in the middle of ocean with high waves going over my head, I switched to a new church that is very welcoming, and started consciously connecting to Lord on a daily basis. Reading Jennifer's book gave me a peace and hope. Two most important ingredients every single mom needs. Thank you Jennifer.

Frankly, I thought it had a lot ofdark details that weren’t needed and certainly were not uplifting. Plus, as a book targeted to help single moms, you had to wade through half the book to get to practical help. To be honest, mine was the dissenting voice in our small single moms group. But I wouldn’t recommend it , nor would I have bought it had I known .

I was looking for something to help me understand the challenges single moms experience. In addition to a great explanation, the author offers hope and help through a national ministry she founded. Great resource!

This book was one of those that you just can't put down until you get through Jennifer's story. She moves pretty quickly, telling about her tumultuous childhood. Unbelievable what kids go through and, by God's grace, Jennifer turned out to be a wonderful productive human being who is helping others through the same struggles! She has a very compelling story to tell and also a helpful and insightful study at the end of the book.

Absolutely wonderful and timely for a soon top be single mom. Jennifer deftly addresses a lot of issues to be faced: emotional, financial, spiritual. .. from a perspective of someone who had experienced all the trials and rewards of single motherhood.

We are using it as a part of our single mothers' ministry. It is a great book. The author's honesty, humility, compassion, and biblical explanations are just what we needed. It has a workbook section!! I'm glad we found this book. I bought 4 copies for myself and the other women on the committee. We plan to buy a case for the mothers we will serve.

What a great book. Jennifer really has such a moving story. I truly could not stop reading. I finished it within 24 hours. While there is definately very valuable information in this book for single mothers, there is truly something in here for everyone. There are so many things that in this book that will help me in my day to day life as I grow as a Christian and as a parent. I would recommend this book to all of my friends and family. Can't wait to read more from Jennifer in the future!

John McGahern wrote six highly acclaimed novels and four collections of short stories, and was the recipient of many awards and honors, including an award from the Society of Author, the American Ireland Fund Literary Awards, the Prix Ecureuil de Littérature Etrangère and the Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Amongst Women, which won both the GPA Book Award and the Irish Times Award, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. He died in 2006.

I am only a few years younger than John McGahern and my maternal grandparents grew up in County Leitrim prior to coming to the US in the early 1890's. McGahern chose to focus on his early years for most of this book because, in many ways, it is an ode to his mother. The author's Mom was an educated woman who taught in the local schools, but sadly, she died from cancer when the author was 9 years of age. From then on, he and his 4 younger siblings were raised by several "hired girls" and his father, who was a Sargeant in the Garda (the Irish Republic national police).McGahern, who died around the time this book was published, was an excellent writer who captures what life in County Leitrim was like as he was growing up in the late 30's and 40'. He describes how he rode his little bicycle for miles at a very young age in order to spend the weekend with his father where he was stationed. We are also told how his demanding father had him cutting turf from the bog from an early age and that his father seldom, if ever, uttered a work of praise or encouragement to him or his siblings.Later in the book, we learn that some of McGahern's writings were banned in his native country. It is to his credit, that McGahern never engages in tirades against his tyrannical father or the Catholic Church in Ireland. However, from this book and his writings in general, it is clear that he stood up to both his father and the Church.

It is hard not to compare favorably this memoir of an Irish childhood with Angela's Ashes. Mcgahern had a difficult time: his beloved, saintly mother died when he was nine leaving him and his younger sisters to be raised by their brutal, sadistic father.He tells it like it was in a non-exploitative, straightforward way, without playing it for laughs.He was expected to enter the priesthood, and he accepted this, until he discovered a different world through his love of reading.He paid a stiff price for his independence, but anyone who reads this, and his other works, will be glad he did manage to find his own way.

Irish literature is justly recognized as some of the most remarkable in any language. John McGahern's Memoir ALL WILL BE WELL was a revelation. It is an account of his life from the perspective of adulthood, focusing upon his childhood and specifically the early death of his Mother. Excellent memoir about the author's childhood. He shows a very interesting picture of the Catholic Church in Ireland and how they influenced all walks of life. He paints a sad picture of his father. He is an amazing author telling about the day to day life in Ireland.

John McGahern's memoir summarises the leitmotifs of his fictional works, where recurring themes of abused children, put-upon wives, and dominating, "old-school" husbands are echoed here. Indeed, one can trace the genesis of the themes of his novels from the people, places, and circumstances that provide the unity of his prose in "All Will Be Well".And the kind of man and writer into which McGahern matured is elegantly presented in this quote (p. 87):"I am sure it is from those days that I take the belief that the best of life is life lived quietly, where nothing happens but our calm journey through the day, where change is imperceptible and the precious life is everything".

McGahern delves into his source material. This autobiography is as gracefully written as his novels. He reveals his courage as a writer and as a person who somehow had the strength to invent himself.

This book would more aptly be titled, "An Introduction to Powershell." I'm having to Google any sort of advanced use of functions which this book covers.For example, it covers multi dimensional arrays in a single page. A brief example of a multidimensional array with "hard coded" values is shown. The book does not show how to add or reference the values dynamically as almost everyone will need to do.Rinse and repeat for the various subjects. This book is good to get a beginner view on Powershell but it's definitely not for advanced use or "Mastering."

An excellent book to start with to understand and take your powershell scripting to the next level.

Very difficult reading. Absolutely not for the beginner. I never gave up on this type of book until now.

Giving 3 stars because I don’t consider this a “mastering” book. It’s more of a reference guide/learn it fast guide. I’ve read multiple books, and this book is lacking detail and content.

I really enjoyed this book. full disclosure: - i was given a copy by the publisher to review, but i would happily have paid for it. i am a Microsoft trainer, and deliver the Microsoft 10961 "Automating Administration with Windows Powershell" course three or four times a year; this book makes an excellent supplement to that course, especially now Microsoft only give students the electronic skillpipe version of the training material. The book not only covers but expands on all the course material, providing in-depth explanations, tips and tricks and pointing out some of the pitfalls. There are also a number of chapters on subjects that are not covered in the course that have become more important in the last few years, such as working with REST, HTML and JSON calls, and testing using Pester. Add in an excellent introductory chapter to working with .NET and all the powershell regex i ever want to see, and the book is a winner. i am recommending it to my colleagues and students.if there was one thing that could be improved upon, it would be the examples. i would like to see more 'real-world' examples, using things an admin might do, rather than some of the simple ones that are given to demonstrate the syntax.other than that, i loved it. i'll be forking out for a paper copy i can put next to my first edition "powershell scripting and toolmaking" book.

I bought it on iTunes store not on amazon. I feel though I should post a review. I speak more than two languages and have studied several languages. I think this is a great way of learning a new language at beginner's level. I like the music and the narrators. However, the course does not have a list of phrases presented and no visual clues such as a video. They also SOMETIMES translate the phrases to English phrases by giving incorrect meaning to individual words. The problem is that each word should be explained giving its true meaning in French. I feel that perhaps as children we learn without visual clues but as adults we require visual clues and this course is intended for adults. A list of phrases would be very helpful. Another issue is the speed with which the native French speaker speaks in this recording. She is not trying to slow down for longer phrases. I think it is a good course with those two limitations.

I got this form my library. This is really good if you are traveling. If you are just learning try and learn the language, it doesn't really start form the beginning. It is more phrases that you will need to know if you travel to France.

I've tried many language programs. The Earworms program is without doubt by far the best. It not ony focuses on the most useful words and phrases (rather than boring, rote grammer exercises), but it does so in an interesting way that dramatically improves memory recall.The only downside: one gets far too little instruction for the cost. And to make matters worse, I was surprised to see Amazon asking over $25 for this supposedly "out of stock" product, when one can easily download it via iTunes for just $16.95.

I'm a senior citizen and words stay in my brain like snow on a warm day. I have volume 1 and am dancing my way to learning French. Somehow it works: the rhythm of the music helps me remember the words, intonation, and pronounciation. I'm pleased. I'm biased for this book for two reasons: my ancestors came to the U.S. from Ireland in the late 1800s and early 1900s (among them were some Irish Picketts of no relation to the infamous Confederate Major General), and I'm an avid reader of Civil War history, especially the kind Dr. Tucker writes.In astonishing detail and accompanied by some quite crisp, clear photographs, Dr. Tucker's take on this little-known aspect of the Civil War is another fascinating installment in his growing library of books on the era. Unlike 99 percent of other Civil War books, Tucker's treatment views microscopic details, personalities, common soldiers' stories, unorthodox perspectives and everything we didn't learn in high school and college.In The Irish at Gettysburg, the author aims his analysis at new immigrants from the Emerald Isle who ended up, incredibly, fighting against each other across the Mason-Dixon Line. Indeed, Dr. Tucker explains, the War Between the States made strange bedfellows, with these Irish fighters perhaps the strangest of all. I gained a new perspective on the Battle of Gettysburg, sympathy for dead on both sides of the conflict, and greater insight into my ancestors' history.Another personal bias: old photographs. This book is loaded with some of the most enlightening CW pictures I've seen (and I thought I'd seen them all). A few, like one taken of the Union Hospital, and another of a war illustrator for Harper's magazine, remind us how real the war was. Just finished my SECOND go through of "The Irish at Gettysburg"! I have been a fan of the author, Phillip Thomas Tucker PhD, for a good while now. It has been my experience that this author can examine an already well known subject with a unique and fresh perspective that challenges my mind. I wish I could find more material these days that would challenge my mind! This coupled with the Civil War being my absolute favorite subject of literature made this book an easy buy for me.Are you fascinated by history? Are you more than a little tired of being spoon fed the same boring details over and over again? Are you of Irish descent and want to read a truly interesting account of the Irish at Gettysburg? Grab this book. Have a go through and just see if you aren't intrigued by Tuckers point of view and detailed breakdown of some of the best stories American History has to offer! In about 250 pages, you will be introduced to exciting new facts about a subject that is already enticing, there is nothing to lose here. There are even some photos that carry a special power on their own. (some of these may be difficult for some to view)I will without a doubt give this book several more reads in the coming the years, as I have with Tuckers previous works. The piece on Picketts charge was phenomenal and I am looking at "Miller Cornfield at Antietam" next.

Gave it to a History buff for Xmas and he loved it.

I found this to be a most interesting examination of a seldom examined bit of history. I doubt you will be disappointed in it.

Cannot get through the introduction. It is sad when such bogus research is allowed to be printed. The introduction is 23 pages long, and filled with historical fallacies on every page. If there is any value in the rest of the book, it would amaze me, at least based on the premise. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU ARE SINCERELY INTERESTED IN IRISH HISTORY!

Phillip Thomas Tucker may have just turned me into a history fanatic with this book. Instead of taking a dry approach to historical events that surround Gettysburg, Tucker takes an unprecedented perspective that maximized my engagement as a reader. History is never something that I have found to be overly interesting, but this book seemed to be written in a way that kept my attention throughout its entirety.In this book, Tucker paints a picture of the Irish impact on the Civil War. He describes historical events in great detail and gives insights into key moments in the Civil War in a compelling manner. Some of the historical events that I remember hearing about in high school, such as Pickett’s charge, were presented in a vivid form.From my perspective, the best thing about this book is the pure detail that is given by Tucker. When reading and learning about history, I prefer to have the more story-based perspective that is presented in this book, instead of just pure facts. Because Tucker provides this sort of narrative, this book is very focused on particular events in the Civil War and does not cover a broad amount of information. For me, this is what I was looking for, however, if you are looking for a more extensive, textbook-style view of history, this book may not be for you.Overall, I don’t think you can go wrong with reading this book. Like I said, I am not a huge history fan, but Tucker’s book was a nice read for a change of pace. I found it very exciting and will definitely be checking out Tucker’s other works!

Lots of rape. But it's an old Johanna Lindsey, so that's pretty par for the course. After about the fiftieth rape scene, I quit reading it, but I think it's safe to assume that the heroine managed to overcome the trauma of having her entire family slaughtered before her eyes, being kidnapped, and being raped repeatedly to eventually be seduced by and fall in love with Rapey the Viking Lord.....

I read reviews on how others didn't like the rapes and so forth in this book. I read many of this authors books, and thought she must have went crazy on this one. I was glad there were not the graphic scenes the reviews lead me to believe there was. Were there rapes, slaves, killings? Yep. Was the way the Vikings were. Except for the two main characters, it is talked about some, not described. All in all, this is a book, not real life. I thought it well written and a good story.

I had some problems with this book that really irked me. There are spoilers ahead...Brenna's family is betrayed, the men are killed and the women carried off (yes, vikings, I know) All the women except for Brenna are gang raped on the voyage home. Worst of all for Brenna is she is given as a slave to the man she was supposed to marry. This man just kind of shrugs his shoulders and expects her to accept the situation. In fact, everyone including what's left of her family thinks she should just fall in line. Her aunt even says "Brenna never really grew up." WHAT!? If you don't want to be a slave, expected to do endless hard work and bend over for whatever drunk viking comes across you, you're obviously immature.The anti-hero hears her heart wrenching description of what happened when they were taken and feels kinda sorry for her, but oh well that's life. He treats her horribly, rapes her twice (vikings, don't forget) makes her life hell and when she is kidnapped and nearly dies trying to return to him he throws her out. This guy really has no redeeming qualities at all. No reason for Brenna to fall in love with him, but every reason to hate him. I was rooting for her to stab him in the eye. along with his father and brother for good measure.I didn't blame Brenna for her behavior at all. I was aghast at her aunt. Everyone is mad at Brenna because she won't break but I admired her. I wanted her to leave and go home because he didn't deserve her.The book is very well written so I gave it three stars instead of two, but I just couldn't buy into the romance.

I'm sure I read this many years ago - when I graduated high school, I worked at a bank where all the ladies read HR. I'm pretty sure I read all of Johanna Lindsey's early books. But forgetfulness is one of the few joys of aging in that it allows one to reread a book for the first time.This one is about Brenna, a Celt from Wales. She is promised to a Viking in an attempt to save her people from their raiding and killing. But Anselm, the Viking who promised his son to her, had no intention of allowing his son to marry a Celt. And so he attacks Brenna's home just after Brenna's father has been buried, kills all the men and takes Brenna, her aunt and her stepsister as captives.Brenna's father raised her as the son he never had, so she is skilled in riding, hunting and swordplay, and knows little about traditional women's work such as sewing and weaving.When the Viking ship reached Norway, Anselm gives Brenna to his son, Garrick, as a slave - he who she thought would have been her husband. Garrick distrusts all women because the Viking woman he wanted to marry had married a wealthy trader. Garrick has himself now become a wealthy trader.Because she was raised more as a male, Brenna has a fierce pride that will not allow her to accept her new condition as a slave. Nevertheless, she can't help noticing how attractive Garrick is.This is definitely an old-school book. Brenna isn't really unwilling to bed Garrick and she is certainly attracted to him, but on one occasion, he does take her very roughly in anger when she refuses him, Also, Brenna's aunt and stepsister are very blasé about being slaves. They do point out that they are not ill-treated and their lives are no worse than when they were free Celts.Nevertheless, it's an enjoyable story - it is fiction after all.

TOXIC LOVE- I bought this book because I have a thing for vikings and the premise sounded exciting. The book is well written for the most part, but I couldn't get over the relationship of the main characters. There is rape involved in the story, which I am not against, since it was what happened at the time, the problem is that the relationship never evolves.The hero is an emotional cripple because his first love left him for another man (boy, if everyone who ever got dumped became like that...) and the guy basically abuses the heroine emotionally and sometimes sexually.The girl is a warrior tomboy (but of course incredibly beautiful) with the most idiotic temper ever known in womankind. When she finds herself a slave, she wants her freedom back, and she hates her captors, which I totally get, but instead of being smart about it and think about a plan to get her freedom (or revenge), she goes on to have temper tantrums on a daily basis.This is a book that falls in the same sins as many other romance novels. It mistakes jealousy and posession for passion. It mistakes a fiery temper for strength of character. And it mistakes an abusive relationship for true love.Really there are better depictions of love.
