How does someone review the most emotional, roller coaster ride of a series conclusion they've ever read? In truth? I'm not really sure but I have a lot of feels that I'm struggling to put into words.I adored A Darker Shade of Magic when I first visited the four Londons of V.E. Schwab's world. It quickly made my list of must-read fantasies. Then came A Gathering of Shadows and all hell broke loose. So much happened and so fast that I was left in a daze upon finishing and forced to wait for what seemed like an eternity until A Conjuring of Light released.Honestly, I was dreading the release a bit because it meant the end of the Shades of Magic series and I wasn't ready for that. I'm still not ready and I've already read it. So right, the book. Was it good?Do you really need to ask me that?I'll start by saying that while A Gathering of Shadows was crazy action and all sorts of things happening at once, A Conjuring of Light slowed things down a bit but not in a bad way. Loose ends needed to be tied up and I think of the three books, this was the most emotional both from the story perspective as well as reading it.AGOS left off on a major cliffhanger that's quickly addressed at the beginning of ACOL but that's not the worst thing the gang has to deal with this time around. Where the book lacked some of the action of previous installments, it more than made up for it with the relationships between all the characters. Everyone has a part to play and are forced to make heartbreaking decisions that had me flying from one page to the next.Goodness, this is hard without spoiling something from a previous book.So the big bad from Black London has decided to take over a new world and while it's a battle of who will come out on top at the end of the day, there's a lot of backstory dropped into this one that you don't see in previous books. Holland, for example, gets a whole damn history written for him and I was internally bawling (just wait, the tears broke through by the end). He's a character that I loved to hate in ADSOM, then he began redeeming himself (marginally) in AGOS, and finally came around in ACOL.Though he can't hold a candle to my ships. Last book we met Alucard and I fell in love with an unavailable "privateer" (I mean, Kell is my one true love so that's alright, I'll fight Lila). The sailor and Rhy needed a happy ending and I was screaming every few chapters because it was constantly under attack. There were moments I may have had a minor freak out. No big deal.Those two had the biggest struggle of my ships. To be honest, I expected more with Lila and Kell but the two had that unspoken relationship where you know they're a thing but nothing is ever said. It comes through their actions. They did relatively well throughout the whole book, though had their respective personal struggles as well as balancing the dynamic of the entire group.Somehow I've kept it together this far but just give me a moment. I have to talk about the ending.The ending.It's over.First, every time I see the word Anoshe I start tearing up (and yes, that includes when I typed it). But it's nothing compared to when I reached that first conclusion of the story. You know, that moment when everything is (relatively) alright and what's coming up is the wrap-up, the conclusion to the conclusion.I stopped reading, 17 pages to go. And I sat there, fighting the tears and the lump in my throat because somehow all those emotions snuck up on me. I don't cry very often, like ever really. And never over a book.Almost ruined the pages with tears, y'all. Moved it just in time.And so I picked up the book once more and I read those last 17 pages and closed it, completing the end of an extraordinary fantasy series. I have never had such a strong reaction to a series ending. Ever. And I'm not sure I will again.Don't let these books go to the wayside. If you haven't started the series and decided to read this review anyway, I'm very confused but alright, now go read them! And if you're putting off ACOL... I understand. You'll likely never be ready for the end but know that you're not alone in that. And I don't think there's anything else I can truly say as my heart hurts too much to put those feelings in words. I'll just leave you with one that, if it holds no meaning now, it soon will.Anoshe.

I held off my overall review of this series until this book, so here's my opinion of the previous installments:Book 1 was a satisfactory burst of originality, drawing enough comparisons to many other prior fantasy novels to be considered a member of that clique, but perhaps not original *enough* to set itself above or even high in that clique. Score: 3 and half to 4 stars.Book 2 continued to make a nod toward ideas that came before, namely the main event, the Elemental Games, which drew the obvious comparison in name to the Hunger Games but was actually more akin to the Triwizard Tournament from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The Games were less exciting than I expected, mostly because of the obvious parallel to those works (felt like I'd been there before), but also because the entire book was slow until it ended on a cliffhanger involving Kell, whose action which brought about the cliffhanger is rather unbelievable. Score: 3 stars.Now, for Book 3. If you've read to Book 2, you *have* to read the third book because of the damn cliffhanger. My issue with this book is the lack in character development. I've read other reviews that comment on the abundance of character development, reviews written by people who read the books in the same way I did (over a period of less than a week). With such an uninterrupted amount of time to simply read, it's clear who develops into a round character and who doesn't. In my opinion (and I acknowledge that there are many opinions that might not agree with this), no one developed in a significant way.Yes, Book 1 Rhy is a sheltered, spoiled prince but he's not a jerk and his desires to be a good brother, a good king, etc. remain the same throughout. Yes, Book 1 Lila is a lost little puppy without a purpose and by Book 3 she's found her calling. But her hasty, off-the-cuff actions are always used as a plot device to further the action.Yes, Book 1 Kell is flawed: arrogant, broody-without-a-cause, weak, too emotional. And Book 3 Kell is the exact same.All other characters might as well be considered wiser, weaker, or more damaged extensions of these three.The story was unpredictable, yes. But I found myself less thrilled and more confused by the erratic nature of the action. One of the things I liked about the first book was the lack in detail of the magic; any story about magicians that delves too far into the magic or starts introducing new magic in the final act loses credibility and by the end of this book, I felt that line had been crossed. It's probably a hard thing to manage, even J.K. Rowling wasn't immune to that pitfall (see Deathly Hallows). And, finally, as others have noted, the final pages left a lot to be desired. It's another pitfall: book got to be too long, had to end it soon, so the author just sawed it off and left it rough around the edges rather than smooth.It's not the worst book I've read, it's not the best series I've read. But if you started it, you have to finish it.

What an incredibly satisfying end to the series. I naturally had high expectations for this book after having loved the previous two books, but even still, this book surpassed my expectations. I cried throughout the final section of the book, not necessarily because of the actual events happening on the page, but because it was so emotionally fulfilling and felt like such a satisfying conclusion to everything. Everything I could have hoped for in a final book.

There are few accounts of dramatic meetings or personal confrontations; heavy on the policy choices. However -- her biggest challenge is corruption. And corruption always has a beneficiary. Nigeria's larcenous class fought hard. Okonjo-Iweala does mention the political side: seeking support from the people of Nigeria and from the elected President. And she frankly acknowledges the role of politics in supporting or hindering reform.One of the worst problems is that previous generations of international loans went to kleptocratic rulers who simply stole much of it, leaving the current government with a very difficult debt problem and little popular support for paying off the old loans or ever borrowing any more money.The author focuses the entire book on her experiences in Nigeria. However, a great deal of the problems and solutions are universal. If your government has borrowed money that it can't pay back -- if your public payroll is bloated by decades of sweetheart deals -- if a business person can't get a loan, or can't get the permits they need, without political juice -- then you've got the same problems. May your President and your Finance Minister read this book, and may you hold them accountable for honest government.

A good book, written more as an insider information of the great effort she (Dr. Ngozi) put in to make Nigeria a country she could/would be proud to call her home country, amidst chronic corruption.I want to wish her the best of luck, she will need it.

Straight to the point and very clear eyed about her successes and failures regarding reform attempts. Also good read because its good to hear her story from her own voice instead of the infinite rumors about her tenure as finance minister

This is an incredibly compelling story especially for a policy book. Ngozi writes from her perspective, which gives the reader some insight into how difficult the reform process was and is.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is about horse races. Lady Julia Stone is the daughter of Garnet Stone, Earl of St. Albans, and he has given the training of Orianna to Julia for the races at Newmarket. She also sees Eddie Francis who at one time worked for her father. Eddie is a jockey riding Valiant, for Lord Torrington.After finding out that her jockey was drunk the only thing that Julie could do was ride her horse. Eddie realizes that Julie would need to be trained on how to ride as a jockey.To find out what happens this story needs to be read! I don’t want to reveal anymore because I think anyone would enjoy reading it.

Lady Julia Stone grew up in a loving society home, with great brothers and the stable master’s son, to play with as a young child. After her brothers went to university, the only one left was Eddie, from the stables, and they enjoyed riding together. Eddie even taught her how to ride astride, which was unheard of for a lady. Julia’s father raised race horses and the desire was in Julia’s blood, too. After Eddie left for a better paying position as a jockey, Julia still was deeply interested in the horses. Her father finally gave her a filly, Orianna, which, she trained for the race track. Things were going fine, until the jockey they hired for the race, was found sleeping off too much to drink. But what is a woman to do but pretend to be a jockey and ride the horse herself. Discovered, by Eddie, they soon reform a friendship that deepens into something more. Ellie St. Clair has given us a look into a society that would shun Julia and laces it with mystery and of course, a wonderful love story.

Lady Julia Stone fell in love with Eddie Francis when she was just a girl. They spent their childhood together. Eddie was the son of the stable hand and loved horses as much as Julia. When he left to pursue his dreams, Julia didn't think she would ever see him again.When the hired jockey was found drunk and unable to race, Julia's first reaction was to take the reins and race the horse herself. After years, she meets Eddie and learns that he's a respectable jockey now and convinces him to help train her to race her horse in the final race.Spending time together draws the two closer together. Eddie knows that she is put of his reach. She deserves nobility and he tries his best to keep his heart unattached. Julia has other plans though. She doesn't care about his station. She only knows that she has loved him for years and cannot imagine her life with anyone else.Loved the story as much as the first book and can't wait for book 3!

A few years on and she has been given control of one of her father's horses. There is a big race coming up.Eddie Francis has moved on from being a groom in the stables of the Lord his father worked for. He is now a very well thought of jockey. He can't help himself from helping a friend train for a race.An exciting and fun story where our characters share a mutual love of racing. Neither of them are typical of the era, but both are fascinating.This is part of a series but can easily be read on it's own.I think I spotted who will be in the next book and look forward to reading it.

Ellie St. Clair has written a delightful story about Julia and Eddie who share a love of horses and racing but come from two different classes. Julia is Lady Julia Stone and Eddie is a jockey. Julia has loved Eddie since she was young and he worked for her family. Julia is determined that the difference in their classes will not stop her from being with him. Julia does not see theirs as a forbidden love. There are so many twists and turns to this story, I especially enjoyed Julia unexpectedly having to fill in when her jockey was drunk. You will enjoy this book.

This is a sweet enjoyable story about love and caring between Eddie and Julia who form a bond with each other over their love of horses and racing. The problem arises because they are from two different classes. I normally don't write reviews but this one made me do so because I feel others should not feel cheated after buying this book. This book contains explanation of Flow in very basic form which anyone can get from the flow website. On top of that the examples are totally copied from the templates already available on flow website. You will not find anything new. Its 232 pages book and i have completed reading first 100 pages in just one hour because 80% of the pages are filled with very bad quality pictures copy pasted from the flow website. I don't even like the quality of the printing. I don't understand how @Apress has taken consideration to publish it. My expectation was to get deep down knowledge of Flows and how it works with some real life examples rather then just twitter, facebook or Sharepoint examples which are not at all valid in real professional environment.Buy it if you really have extra money and time.

Just as the previous reviewer said. The book is basically cut and pasted from the Microsoft Flow website. This makes me very dubious of the publisher's other books. Very poor quality control.

I cannot say enough how much I loved Chuck Kimmerle's book on creative black and white photography. I have had the privilege of attending a workshop with Chuck, so know how much knowledge and passion he has on the topic and a desire to mentor aspiring photographers on the craft. If you cannot attend a workshop with Chuck, this book, for me, encapsulates his vision of mentoring. The book is brilliantly organized into 60 bite-size chapters covering an incredible depth of topics from pre-visualization to straight landscape photography to surreal subject matter to long exposure (and so many more topics) with several chapters dedicated to "working the scene," which I found fascinating and incredibly helpful. It is not an in-depth "how to" technical guide (there are plenty of you-tube videos out there for that), although Chuck does offer insights on post-processing and lens selection, among other core technical considerations. What "Black & White Artistry" is, is a book about vision and creativity that inspires you to pick up your camera and see the world in new ways with limitless possibilities, and for that I am extremely grateful.

Don't be deceived by the compactness of this book, it accomplishes something that very few other books do: it articulates and illustrates a way of thinking about B&W photography. There's no shortage of how-to tutorials out there that cover capture and processing techniques ad nauseam, but very few that cover the far more important skill of relating to the world visually, and expressing one's relationship visually. Chuck is not only an immensely creative and skilled photographer, he also has a way of articulating his approach succinctly, with useful examples, great insight and good humor.

Chuck Kimmerle has his own unique style, a true black and white artist. The book is rich with insight and creativity in recognizing and shooting images that are unique, which in my humble opinion is what sets photographers apart from those who shoot the same images everyone else does; working with "bad" light (there is no bad light!), post-processing black and white more effectively, plus much more.If you like Chuck's work, I encourage you to seek out his lectures and workshops for more inspiration. He has been a positive influence on my own desire to seek out new ways to photograph.

I can honestly give this book very high marks. Chuck Kimmerle is an accomplished photographer that really cares about teaching his craft to others. I have had the privilege of taking a class from Chuck. He is a dedicated teacher that gives 110% effort in all that he does. This book is a lot like taking a class from him. It is honest, straightforward and thought provoking. He wants your photography to be your vision, not anyone else’s. It is often said that less is more in photography. Immerse yourself in this book and you will see that Chuck’s succinct style of photography and teaching has a way of allowing you to see the world with YOUR eyes.

I was hoping the author would go into greater detail on the steps he used in post processing. The few examples he gave were very hard to see. His perspectives of what make s photo strong was good and educational.

Excellent guide, filled with tons of useful tips! In addition, amazing examples of Kimmerle's work make this book even more worth purchasing.

Kumai is known for creating inspiring, mindful food content. I first learned of her work through the book Pretty Delicious, which focused on FWB's: Food With Benefits. The object was not deprivation, but modification. Make sure to focus on the healthier parts of food (the greens, mostly), then allow space for living and enjoyment! The other cookbooks focused, again, on well-thy foods to encourage feeling good and looking good (Cook Yourself Sexy, Clean Green Drinks, Clean Green Eats).This book takes a different turn, and Kumai is going to get a huge return on her investment. She took a series of trips to Japan to speak with family and experts on Japanese philosophy. While she got to tap into her roots, and repair from her own grief and loss, we yield the benefits of her gained wisdom (all without the high ticket price and jet lag). Oh, and you still get great recipes (matcha scones are going to happen this weekend!).Kintsugi is about repair. We've all felt broken at one point or another, but I think we need to think beyond the self-care of bubble baths and face masks. Being broken isn't easy- it's tears shed, drinking too much, and losing who you are. We all have a story like Kumai's, but we have to do the hard work to fill in the cracks of our broken shell (and fill them with gold, honey!). I have been looking forward to this book to be released for a while...so much so that the night I received it, I sat down and read it cover to cover!Last year, as my Mom and I were on a trip together and we took a walk through a forest. Although my knowledge of Japan and its people was pretty minimal, I knew that the Japanese seemed to view life differently than what I am used to be surrounded by in the US. I wanted to learn more.Almost immediately after returning from my trip, Candice announced she was releasing a book about Japanese wellness, and I knew I had to get it.And it did not disappoint. I am a nutritionist in NY (Alex). I read Candice's book one night! I was so excited to receive it when I got home. The book is beautiful inside and out. Candice's passion and love for her family, upbringing and country of her roots is so evident in the pages of this book. I will certainly need to re-read and place lots of stickies in the margins to come back to lessons I will need to remind myself of again and again. This is a true wellness book- yes it involves food/beautiful recipes (cannot wait to make matcha chocolate cookies and pancakes!), but it is more about how to be spiritually well, love yourself, find the beauty in other humans, and let go of what does not serve you. I am traveling to Japan soon and cannot wait to see it with more presence than I might have before- inspired by Candice. Could feel all the love that went into this book and it was so well written. Highly recommend!

After living in Japan for two years (and missing it greatly) and struggling to keep a calm, clear head at times, this book was soooooo refreshing to read! Having experienced the culture and then thinking about the simple phrases I'd hear on a daily basis and how it relates to general well-being was an association I hadn't truly made on my own. Now these terms/sayings take on a different, more meaningful and applicable context for me.

I'd give this more than 5 stars if I could! It's that good! Powerfully, clearly-written, wonderful book! This book is helping me understand spiritual warfare and how to fight. It's showing me areas in my life that have been battlefields, when I blamed it all on myself - or other people. In my opinion, this is an important book - a vital book - for every Christian to read! I'm going thru it again, one chapter a day, to absorb the truths and learn from it.This is a keeper and a book I will re-read and refer to time and time again.

Five stars. I think the most important consideration for the five-star rating is that it is biblical.As with any truth found in the Bible, it is powerful for the believers in Christ.The truths presented in this book by Dr. Evans will change your life if you'll apply them!

While it's true that the tongue has the power of life and death, this book is shook my life so hard that I am more spiritually aware of my eternal gift of life AND the magnitude of the POWER JESUS CHRIST transferred to us when HE defeated death!!And to think how many of us, DAILY either under-utilize or not at all, this power over our lives!!I had already read Kingdom Woman and had just started on Kingdom Disciples when I happened upon this free offer last spring.I plan on reading the entire Kingdom & Spiritual Warefare series.And prayerfully this fall, start a recurring Kingdom Disciples class that will blend in the Spiritual Warfare teachings.If you want to fight evil well, you have to get spiritually fit first! The series mentioned are your "go to" books but always pick up your bible 1st! I know Dr. Evans will agree.

This is the best book I’ve ever read on spiritual warfare. Pastor Tony Evans teaches things I don’t recall ever having heard taught before and yet, when he gives the scriptures, they are right there. I am grateful for his clear teaching and I will be returning to this book to read again and again. This subject could not be more important than it is right now.
