Okay so I DO like Scott Pilgrim, but the only reason I bought this book is because I wanted to replace my roommate's copy. Why you ask? Because I ruined his copy on accident. How you ask? Because I knocked it into a trashcan full of blood and spit. How did I knock it in you ask? Because I was trying too hard to pet my cat when he walked in arm's reach (he didn't like pets so he ran). Why was the trashcan filled with blood you ask? Because I had just gotten my wisdom teeth out, and the plasma-saliva was flowing from my head like a fountain, so I was drooled it into a trashcan sitting next to me.So the scene is me, reading Volume 4 of Scott Pilgrim, drunk on painkillers from the surgery, laying on the couch snuggled up to a sloshy trashcan brimming with spitblood when my cat walks by lookin' soft as heck. I reach out to graze my fingers against his silken sides. Suddenly, he recoils away from my embrace, because he hates love. My heart torn, I reach out further in a vain attempt at reconciliation, and tip Volume 4 of Scott Pilgrim into the trashcan, where it absorbs all of the plasma, saliva and other bodily fluids immediately. End scene as I try to buy another copy on Amazon but mistakenly purchase new blinds instead.

Once upon a time, a comic artist named Bryan Lee O'Malley did a comic series around a central character named Scott Pilgrim. That comic series got made into a movie called Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. The movie was not bad, but was definitely worth seeing if only because it made me want to read the comic series it was based on. And I'm here now to tell you that O'Malley's original series is awesome. It's also almost impossible to describe, but I'll give it my best shot and say it's original, it's funny, it's way surreal, and it's probably unlike anything you've ever read.On the surface, the plot arc of the six-volume series is centered around Scott Pilgrim, a twenty-something game-playing slacker in a Canadian garage band, who meets the girl of his dreams (literally) and finds he must defeat her seven evil ex-es if he wants to date her. But like an iceberg, the surface only hints at everything that lies beneath.Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together is the fourth volume in the series. The cast of returning characters include:Scott Pilgrim, a wide-eyed and likeable but perpetually clueless 23-year-old slacker who's in a garage band called Sex Bob-omb. ("How are you and Ramona doing? Have you said the L-word yet?" "The L-word? You mean... lesbian?" "Uh... no. The other L-word.")Ramona Flowers, a roller-blading delivery girl for Amazon.ca and the girl of Scott's dreams. ("You and _her_?!" "Oh, relax. You'll be hooked.I highly recommend this book (and the entire series) to anyone who appreciates a comic series with a unique visual style, engaging characters, the kind of surreal world we only wish we could live in, and just a great fun read.

First of all, I'd like to recommend the entire Scott Pilgrim saga. But I chose to only review this volume in particular because, in my opinion, it is the best one in the series. It may not be as charming as the first volume but it is the one that takes Scott on an emotional trip just as much as a physical one. What I mean to say is that the book puts Scott in tons of peril not only because of the 4th evil exe he has to fight but also because of his inner flaws and shaky past coming back to trouble him. In the end he grows as a character and so does Ramona, and everything turns out honky dory despite all their troubles and flaws. For me, this is O'Malley's biggest step in his saga and he does it exceptionally well. There are more reasons to enjoy this volume, but that's for you to figure out.IN SHORT: IT'S THE BEST IN THE SERIES BECAUSE IT IS BOTH EPIC AND AMBITIOUS IN IT'S NARRATIVE BUT WHAT MAKES IT THE BEST IS THAT O'MALLEY PULLS IT ALL OFF VERY WELL.

This is a great book, funny, well-written with great graphics. The video game themes are integrated in a very clever way, and it is a fun read. If you liked the movie (which is great, by the way), you will definitely like this book. For fans of graphic novels or video games, you will love this book.For parents: I would not recommend this book for those under the age of 14 due to some adult content (some references to sex). I am an educator and I would not allow students to read this unless they were in high school (9th grade or higher).

The first three Scott Pilgrim books have shown that he is immature, thoughtless and sometimes mean. Sure, he's charming and funny, but is that enough to balance out his laziness, selfishness and ignorance? That depends on the reader.Deep thought aside, this book is hilarious and as fun as it's predecessors. Mixing comic books, kung-fu movies, music videos, and especially video games, it truly makes them into a pure fun mixture.In this one, Scott fights another of Ramona's evil exes. Not an evil ex-boyfriend, though. to find out what that means, you'll have to read it!

I loved the movie and made it a point to eventually get all 6 books that they cull the movie from, often directly. Wonderful fun. I'm not sure I'd ever say one of the 6 is better or worse than the others. They're more like different volumes of one book.

I'm impressed by this one volume of Scott Pilgrim than I was by the entire movie.

This rating is for this Kindle version NOT related to the content of the books themselves. This kindle edition is not usable. It crashed my tablet constantly. I think perhaps it is just too much into one book. I wish now I had bought these seperately to have smaller files. Beware if you buy this it may not work.

Edersheim was born to Jewish parents in Vienna 1825. He spoke English in his home, but studied at the gymnasium, Hebrew school and at the University of Vienna. He eventually ended up at Oxford. He converted to the Christian faith through the ministry of a Church of Scotland pastor. His contribution to the background of the Bible through his knowledge of the Hebrew Bible, Talmud and Septuagint are tremendous.

Edersheim is a great author, but the Kindle edition of "His greatest works" is completely unusable. There is no table of contents and not even a way to jump directly to the beginning of 4 or 5 books included in the collection, never mind to any chapter within each book. If you buy this book, have fun scrolling.

If you are looking for historically accurate information concerning the Jewish culture and religion at the time that Jesus was alive, this is a great source. Be aware that it is written at a college level and can be heady at times.

These books old (written over 100 years ago), but they are a great view of the times and culture surrounding the Israelites and the life of Christ. There is an incredible amount of detail considering the age of Edersheim's work. Without question there have been many discoveries in the realms of Egyptology and archeology and history that have corrected some of Ederseim's assertions. That, to me, does not diminish the value of his works. There are still many, many great insights to be gained regarding how the Israelites lived day to day, how they approached temple worship, and other cultural issues that help us understand the Old and New Testaments.There are those that would discredit all of his thoughts and writings based on those things that have been discovered since he wrote these books. What would happen, however, if we applied the same logic to the world of geology or biochemistry. Does the fact that geneticists did not understand something regarding DNA in the 1980's mean that everything they discovered should be disregarded? Edersheim's works should still be studied in the light of recent discoveries.

Analects, in case you were wondering, are "selected passages from the writings of an author.” I mention this definition here because it seems that the only time we use the term “analects” is when we consider the writings of Confucius. Was there once a larger corpus of writings from Confucius, and is what we have today distilled from some larger body of work? If so, then I wish we had that entire larger body of philosophical work, the same way we have a good many books from classical Greek philosophers like Plato and Aristotle; but that being said, I certainly am glad that we have the Analects as a distillation of Confucius’ philosophy.His Chinese name was K’ung Fu-tzu, 孔夫子, and the Latinate name that he bears today was probably bestowed by Jesuit missionaries to China in the 16th century. By any name, however, Confucius is a great philosopher who speaks to us today just as clearly as he spoke to the people of Chinese antiquity. He lived a long time ago – when he died in 479 B.C., the Spartan defense of Thermopylae had taken place just one year before – but it is astonishing how current and relevant his words and ideas remain.“Analects” is, of course, a Latin- and Greek-derived term; in Chinese, the book is 論語,the "Lun Yü." It is divided into 20 books, and contains a total of 512 Confucian sayings, most of them quite short. On this re-reading of "The Analects," I encountered some sayings that were already familiar to me: e.g., “To say you know when you know, and to say you do not when you do not, that is knowledge” (II.17, p. 65). Yet on this reading, I learned many things that I found new.Perhaps because I’ve been reading a good deal of classical Greek philosophy lately, I found some striking parallels between Confucius and the Greeks who wrote sometime after him. For instance, when “The Master said, ‘Barbarian tribes with their rulers are inferior to Chinese states without them’” (III.5, p. 67), it made me think of how the ancient Greeks considered any non-Greek-speaking society to be βάρβαροι, barbaroi, barbarians. I found myself thinking of the doomed tragic heroes of ancient Greek drama, men and women brought down by their tragic flaws, when I heard Confucius reflect that “In his errors a man is true to type. Observe the errors and you will know the man” (IV.7, p. 73).Confucius knows that his disciples aspire to government service in the bureaucracy of the Empire – hence the prevalence of sayings in which Columbus offers advice such as, “Do not worry because you have no official position. Worry about your qualifications. Do not worry because no one appreciates your abilities. Seek to be worthy of appreciation” (IV.14, p. 74),Additionally, in an acutely status-conscious society, Confucius’ listeners are very interested in what will help them achieve the distinction of “gentleman.” With considerable focus on the value of benevolence, Confucius suggests that “The gentleman understands what is moral. The small man understands what is profitable” (IV.16, p. 74). And in one of my favorite passages from the Analects, Confucius remarks that “the gentleman hates to dwell downstream for it is there that all that is sordid in the Empire finds its way” (XIX.20, p. 155).Readers who are interested in the Judeo-Christian philosophical and moral tradition may be struck by the ways in which Confucius disagrees with one of the primary moral imperatives of Christianity. In contrast with Lao Tzu, who in the "Tao Te Ching" tells his disciples to “do good to him who has done you an injury”, Confucius says, “What, then, do you repay a good turn with? You repay an injury with straightness, but you repay a good turn with a good turn” (XIV.34, p. 129). In other words, the only thing you owe to someone who has wronged you is straightness, directness, honesty. For Western readers, many of whom have been raised in the tradition of “whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also” (Matthew 5:39), this may be the most challenging passage in the entire "Analects."At the same time, Confucianism invokes the Golden Rule in a way similar to all the other great moral, philosophical, and religious systems of the world. In response to a disciple’s asking, “Is there a single word which can be a guide to conduct throughout one’s life?”, Confucius replies, “Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire” (XV.24, p. 135).Perhaps because it is the dawn of a presidential election year here in the United States of America, I found that I was particularly interested in one particular example of Confucius’ advice to his disciples: “Be sure to go carefully into the case of the man who is disliked by the multitude. Be sure to go carefully into the case of the man who is liked by the multitude” (XV.28, p. 136). Good advice in the state of Lu during the Zhou dynasty, and good advice in any modern nation nowadays.I had this edition of "The Analects" with me when my wife and I were traveling in Beijing, home of the second largest Confucian temple in the world. Walking in the Forbidden City, my copy of "The Analects" in my jacket pocket, I wondered how many readers, imperial or otherwise, referred to their own copy of this book while traveling between and among the buildings of this most impressive city-within-a-city.This edition of "The Analects" includes a glossary of names and places mentioned in the book, an appendix on events in the life of Confucius, a textual history of the book, and a chronology of Confucius’ life. Particularly helpful is another appendix, one that describes the characters of the different disciples with whom Confucius speaks in the Analects. For readers of Confucius’ time, and indeed for followers of Confucianism nowadays, the differences in character among disciples like Tzu-kung, Tzu-lu, and Yen Yüan would be as self-evident as the differences in personality that Christians see among Saint Peter, Saint John, and Saint Thomas in the New Testament. This Penguin Books edition of Confucius’ "Analects" is a very fine way to acquaint, or reacquaint, oneself with one of the most important books ever written.

I own the Oxford World's Classics edition translated by Raymond Dawson.This was my first reading of 'The Analects' and while it was not quite what I expected, as it does not contain a truly coherent philosophy or even a consistent mode of presentation or authorship, it was nevertheless an incredibly rewarding study. And I say study rather than read because while it is quite brief (82 pages) there are a wealth of "chapters" that will leave you pondering--in a good way! If you are worried about the stereotype of vaguess and aloofness in Chinese sages, you needn't fear 'The Analects'. The main thing that can obscure some of the "chapters" is their reliance on Chinese history and most of these are briefly cleared up in Dawon's notes. 'The Analects' can be picked up and put down at a whim due to the informal structure and you will never feel that you lost the flow of it should a few days pass between readings.While I can't compare it to another translation or the Chinese, I found Dawson's translation to be very smooth and highly consistent throughout, and he supplements the introduction with helpful notes on his translation of key terms. This is an edition primarily for the newcomer rather than the scholar (not to say it is in anyway "dumbed down") as it is wonderfully concise in its introduction and notes, never saying more than needs to be said. However, in my case, I certainly wouldn't have minded more scholarship and context. Dawson uses Pinyin rather than Wade-Giles, which is a welcome shift in my eyes, as Wade-Giles often feels overwrought even if it sometimes comes closer to the true pronunciation, and there is a nifty conversion chart included in this edition.This edition like all of the newer Oxford World's Classics is neatly designed with a beautiful cover and good quality paper.

My 8-year-old chose to get this book with his birthday money. Unlike another paper toys book I got recently, there are no errors in tab numbering (that I've found), and every model has clear instructions. Be aware: you will need glue, and you should definitely pay attention to difficulty ratings when choosing a model for a kid to build -- make sure they start with an easy one!

I don't write reviews, but the Easter Bunny brought this and my 7 year old has been busy building away and doesn't have any intention of stopping until he's completed all 46. Glue stick needed, but we had plenty. Lost a star because they do not glow, some glow stickers can be added, but glow in the title and glowing picture on cover is misleading. Overall still cool.

My son absolutely loves this. Best gift he's received in years, as far as spending a good amount of time goes. They are so fun to build, and super cute. Dad and mom enjoy it too. Once built, you can still play with them, or build a shelf and be proud of the work.

I loved this book more than my kids but they had a lot of fun playing with the robots once they were complete. It's also a nice that these toys are disposable once the kids get tired of playing with them.

These are so cute. They're easy to make for someone who is a little familiar with paper crafting. Kiddos might need a lil help from an adult. They pop out easily and fold clearly and the directions are easy to follow. Plus, stickers!

My 10 year old son loves these!

My grandson LOVED this book!! Very easy to build our first robot. Ordering a second copy to have at my house when he comes to visit. Lots of robots! Excellent job, authors.

Hard to tear out some of them. But great instructions. My daughter loves it. You do need tape or glue. It does NOT just have slots that fit together.
