I highly recommend this beautiful story, particularly for grades four and up. The characters are engaging and relatable. Will buy for my school’s library today!

How High the Moon is a strong and powerful dose of history. Depending upon your point of view it is either derivative of To Kill A Mockingbird or an homage. I really like it a lot it a lot so I am going with homage. Rather than tell the tale of 3 white adolescents' summer this is the tale of three black children, with Ella serving as the narrator or Scout character. The racism the reader encounters is first hand, not filtered through a caucasian lens, which makes it all the more searing and powerful. As in the Harper Lee novel's trial of Jim, there is a great injustice driving the story. However it is the small injustices and cruelties, the everyday indecencies and hatreds that add up until they feel almost unbearable to the reader who wonders how did people survive that time with their dignity intact? Yet they did survive with faith and courage they absolutely did. Their story is a lesson to all, young and old.I was a bit disappointed with the end which seemed more a whimper than a bang, but others may think that is too harsh. What is absolutely true is all young people should read this book. So too should most adults. Very highly recommended.

This middle grade novel does a great job showing what life was like in the south during the Jim Crow era. Ella, who is eleven, is the main narrator, although we also hear from her cousins, Henry and Myrna. Ella moves for a time to Boston to be with her mother who is attempting to make a living in music. Because of this, Ella gets to see the differences between life in the North and the South for black people. She is also aware that she is light skinned, which bring its own set of problems.This is a heartbreaking novel and I fell in love with Ella from the beginning, hoping that she would find happiness and accept who she was and where she was brought up. Parsons has done a great job of writing a novel for a young audience about a tough time and subject. This should be a must purchase for all children's library collections.

Although I think the ending could have been quite a bit stronger and there is one section that I don't understand, this is a great book. Ella makes you see what it was like to be treated worse than many people these days treat their dog or cat. To be killed and nothing done about it; to be accused of a crime you didn't commit and forced to confess to it. My favorite all-time book is "To Kill a Mockingbird" but this is a lot more graphic and goes into more detail. It made me want to cry in quite a few places and it made me want to slap (or worse) some of the unfeeling whites. Very, very sad, but the courage and character of Ella and her family and friends is uplifting.

This book takes you by the arm and leads you along a beautiful journey of self realization through the eyes of eleven year old Ella, a light skinned African American girl growing up in the Jim Crow south. This is necessary reading for all young adults particularly in these times. I am sure it will become a classic and take it's place on many bookshelves along side such diverse books as "To Kill A Mocking Bird" and "Wonder". Thank you Ms Parsons I can hardly wait to read your next book.

I liked how this book touched on the bad and then went right through some of the worst parts of the Jim Crow South, but still had an optimistic point of view and overall seemed to me to be about finding happiness in your family and comfort in your community. The structure of Ella's search for her father and getting to know her mother in the big, bad city was fun. Bringing in Henry and Myrna's perspectives was also nice. This is going on the list to read with my 10yo so we can discuss.

Beginning took too much time in the background. Not enough action. Couldn’t get through it.

Fairly good book for an older child. A little boring for my daughter.

Sometimes buying books like this online can be hit or miss when you're unable to look inside and see the content. I was very impressed with this devotional book though. I feel as if this is geared mostly towards young women in their early 20s, which is my age but I think it could apply for teenage girls too. Each devotion starts with a verse and then has a small paragraph to go with it. I enjoy the fact that it's not long but it's very thoughtful and always seems to reflect on the kind of things that are going in my life.

This is by far one of the best devotionals I have found in a really long time. I bought it for my 18 year old daughter, but to be honest, I am going to read it with her. It's perfect for any age woman, young or old(er). It's also a beautiful book to display on your nightstand to remind you to read it.

I bought these for 3 young adult women in my family ages 21 to 25. They really enjoy them. These devotions are applicable to what young women today experience. The book is also very beautiful and well made.

Bought for my 11 year old middle schooler. Great devotional for breathing truth into girls about their worth and who they truly get their worth from.

The reflections are so well-written and not cheesy (which is something that is sadly harder to find than it should be). The artwork is beautiful and the quality of the book (hardcover) was great too. I think this book could work for any Christian denomination and a wide range of ages. I purchased this for a 16 year old, but as a 28 year old I would totally use this book too!

Long story short, finished pn program in 2014 but due to life tragedies, postponed nclex until now, taking in sept. (Will update results). I had bought the 2014 book and since its now 2018 I thought I'd get the newest version. Well, everything is EXACT, word for word. The conprehensive test in the back is the same as 2014. Also, the cd only contains 2 videos, one of IV calculation review and dosage calculations. In that stand point, dissapointed. Us students are already burdened with low income, bills and so on. Clever on their end. For that I minus a star.Update:Overall, it is a great book. Gets you prepared for that mind set of NCLEX style exam. I took an ATI course in December and have learned alot more with this book. Highly recommend along with another book containing practice questions because this book does not contain too many practice questions. I used Lipincott's NCLEX Review and it was eaxactly what i needed. Kaplan is more focused on preparing the student for the NCLEX style. How to read, comprehend and choosing best asnwer. I combined both books, studied only 3 weeks after graduating 7 months ago and passed with flying colors.

amazing, however if you jumped the gun like I did, and bought the 2017 edition it is the same except for the cover change. I was excited to explore this edition just to find out that everything was the same, word for word. If you have the 2017 edition, save yourself the trouble and money. If you don't have the 2017 edition, this book is extremely helpful. The test taking pointers that is given really does help. I have been out of school for a bit and felt the need for a refresher. Reading this book on how to take test made my scores go up on all of my practice test the moment I finished the book. What it says really does help and I feel confident taking the NCLEX after reading this book.

You DO NOT GET ACCESS to ANYTHING online...That's false information. What you actually purchase is just the book. That you will have to carry around.The online book and tests is not true. If you don't mind totting a huge book around then this is good for you.

I'm a nursing instructor I teach both LPN student and RN students, the first day of clinical I tell my students to get this book (RN version if I'm teaching the RN clinicals) and during post clinicals we use these books. Every student has commented how the light came on for them. This book helps the student understand questions as well as not to get caught up in the fluff that test questions have, I can not recommend these books enough. I tell students they only need 2 study guides this is one of them. I tell students to read the book twice before taking the two test this book provides, and when they do that, everybody has gotten at least 90% of them...

I heard good things about this book when I was preparing for my nclex exam. The first time I took it I failed, after the first attempt I decided to change my study plan and I bought this. The book tells you exactly how to pick apart NCLEX style questions, and teaches you how to test the way that they want you to. I also bought an extra 1,000 online questions. Long story short, I took the NCLEX again on the 20th and I received my “unofficial” passing notice today. I will be passing this book on to other people to use because I’m swearing by this book.

Any LPN's planning to buy this book for the LPN to RN Transitions exam by Kaplan (used for many bridge programs) I do not recommend this book.This book is great for prepping for a Kaplan exam, however, I would stick with Pearson Vue texts only if prepping for the NCLEX. Kaplan is it's own world in term of rationales.I purchased this book to freshen up my knowledge before taking the Transitions exam and this was not helpful. The exam was mostly just delegation and nursing law knowledge, not critical thinking. I recommend finding a different text to study if that's your intended exam.

This book is really great if you want to better understand and prepare for NCLEX-PN TEST-TAKING STRATEGIES. Thorough overview about what to expect the test to be like, and general guidelines about how to study etc.HOWEVERIt does NOT contain review content in any depth; i.e. lab value tables, Rx cards, etc.There are the Practice tests and a few things you can access online, such as an eBook and options to catch online prep video. The book comes with a card that states you need to register the book at kaptest.com/NCLEXPNPrepPlus2018 BUT IT MAY NOT WORK through that. (For me, using Chrome or Safari it did not) So I contacted Kaplan:-Go to kaptest.com/booksonline-scroll until you find your book & registerHope that helps!

However, for myself, the real treasure of this biography is found in the details of Grant's personal life, and the periods both before and directly after the Civil War.Ronald C. White Jr. based this biography, in a large part, on all 33 volumes of "The Papers of Ulysses S. Grant". Even though I have read countless other Grant biographies, and Grant's own wonderful memoirs several times over, "American Ulysses" was full of surprises and new insights. Grant's relationship with his wife, Julia, and his entire family, is depicted in great detail. The author's in-depth treatment clearly reveals that Grant's marriage, family, and loyal friends were his anchor during the personal and professional challenges he weathered.Mr. White's description of Grant's accomplishments (and frustrations) while serving under President Andrew Johnson was eye-opening. And both terms of Grant's presidency are given vivid, accurate, and (thankfully) unbiased detail. Likewise, the section on Grant's world tour was a treasure, and I found myself grateful that fate had finally given this untiring servant of the people a gift for himself.Near the end of the book, there were tears in my eyes when reading about Grant's last day. Mr. White not only brought Ulysses alive for me, but, more than that, helped me to see him as if he was my own friend. For that, I am extremely grateful. Surely, however, the author's greatest accomplishment is that he has given present and future generations of historians and scholars the definitive tome on the life of Ulysses S. Grant. And for that, the world is extremely grateful.

An outstanding, well written biography. The author has a writing style that turns this biography into a real page turner as I found myself unable to put it down and wanting to read one more chapter each night. In addition to Grant's military service the author does a good job describing his early life, presidency and world tour and life after the presidency. I have read several previous biographies on Grant and his memoirs (which is excellent) and this biography provided new information. I found his description of Grant's reading habits and love of the theater fascinating also his desire to read during school instead of study (a habit I shared at a future child of USMA -- USAFA)I read the kindle version and there were several transcription errors -- in the first few pages 1600 dates often showed up as 1800s and in the Mexican war story of Grant having his men haul a cannon up to the roof we went from knocking on the door to watching our shots fall among the enemy. I know Amazon does ebook updates and hopefully these are on the short list for repair (though frankly these are very minor items).The author provides extensive notes an an excellent bibliography.I highly recommend the book,

It wasn't so long ago that in my junior high and high school history classes we learned about gallantry and genius of Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson while Grant was almost an afterthought. We'd learn how Andrew Johnson had stood up to Radical Republicans to save the constitution. Then finally we'd read in our textbooks about how Grant's Presidency was in most ways a failure and ushered in the gilded age. It was interesting reading to me at the time but of course I eventually found out it was materially false account in many aspects. This book follows many other books over recent decades that help set the record straight and allows readers to appreciate Grant's rise from obscurity and failure to become a dynamic military and political leader. The author delves into Grant's campaigns in a manner that is engaging and insightful while demonstrating his military genius. The author also spends time outlining how Grant's principled actions he took as President, some he took without popular support, to ensure former slaves civil rights were protected and the union stabilised after the civil war and divisive, failed presidency of Andrew Johnson. The most interesting part if the book for me though was Grant's pre-civil war life. He came from humble beginnings to attend West Point and become an army officer only to resign in disgrace and fail as a farmer and businessman when he was almost 40. I find it interesting how much he grew in terms of his leadership abilities as a man approaching middle age. This book helped me gain a greater appreciation for Grant as a person and great American leader. I fully recommend this book to anyone who loves American history or reading about great historical figures.

Good for use as a supplement to "The Diary of Anne Frank," in that it looks at the time in the attic (and afterwards) from a boy's point of view. Obviously fiction, but it uses many of the same scenes Anne described, so the author imagines what Peter might have been thinking. Gives an interesting perspective on several of the people in Anne's diary. The experience after the capture is detailed and helps the reader understand what the families went through in the camps.The writing is not as sophisticated as Anne's. I don't know whether Dogar does this to delineate Peter's character or if Anne would have been a better writer (seems she may well have been outstanding).

I fell in love with The Diary Of Anne Frank, well mostly with Peter Van Pels, and this book is what i had ever dreamed, i wanted something like this, Peter's testimony. I had never cryied with a book, and this made me cry. It has something that you can't stop. I Love it ! Best Book Ever! If you are looking for Peter Van Pels, this is for you. Im a bookworm and i have read a lot of books, but this, wow, you can feel it. Buy it!

I loved annexed the love story between anne and peter was the best part of the book and was the main idea.

I'm very interested in reading young adult Holocaust literature. So when I read the description of this book, I was intrigued by the option of seeing the events surrounding Anne Frank told by a different point of view. What I found was a story that rather overemphasized Peter's experiences in dealing with puberty while living in hiding. While I have no doubt that this topic was likely an issue, it overshadowed other important elements in the book. With so many stellar Holocaust accounts and stories available, this is not one I would recommend. Interesting concept, but could have been much more profound...

Amazing book I advice everyone to read it!!! I loved it!!! I always wondered what Peter's point of view was on his stay in the Annex and this book gives you so so much more than that!!!

My daughter bought this book for me for my birthday, and I absolutely love it! I never had a good understanding of terms like organic, conventional, real, and natural. I also didn't realize how completely unsustainable our "conventional" modern farms are, or the value of community supported agriculture. This book is a real eye-opener, and the information is presented in a very reader-friendly way. It has helped me be more aware of what I buy and what I eat and feed my family. I have since purchased one for my daughter and another for my son's girlfriend. It's well worth the price!

I was very disappointed in this book. It was very misleading. It pretty much just described the different groups of foods available (organic, natural, feedlot) in the different types (beef, pork, seafood, vegetables.) I don't recall any money saving tips other than buy in bulk and preserve. I will never spend $8 on a 96 page book again.Buy Eat Where You Live by Lou Bendrick instead. A better quality book, a little bit longer, too.

I purchased this book for my bookshelf to hopes to have a quick reference guide to a more sustainable and organic way of life. One aspect of that is the fact that I am in college and don't have a lot of money to spend on food; Walmart is always the cheaper option because I can get a lot of food for less, yet I hoped that this book would give a few tips on how to buy organic while still saving a buck. This book fell extremely short of my expectations!! It did however do a fairly decent job of breaking down different types of food and explain how in todays world, most foods are processed to the point of being unhealthy. This was interesting to me and I was able to learn a bit about certain food and what to watch for in supermarkets, yet I purchased this book to help me "buy right, and spend less." This book did half of that, I now have a better incite into buying right, but it did nothing to help me send less!! In the end I was excited to read a book that was short and informational on the subject of sustainable foods, yet it only lived up to half of its title. Thus I would not buy this book unless it was on sale from its already cheap $8 price tag. Decent edition to your bookshelf, yet try "The Organic Food Shoppers Guide," by Jeff Cox, its much more informative and its only $2 more!

I am reviewing from the perspective of someone that has done web development for many years, but has only learned CSS in a piecemeal and ad hoc fashion - picking up the parts that I needed at any given moment in time, but not as a fundamental subject to be understood from the ground up. As of 10/22/17 I am over 100 pages in to the book and so far the content is excellent and deserving of five stars: it's comprehensive, strikes a good balance between terse and lengthy, and the examples are quickly understood.I am docking one star due to two issues with the Kindle edition of the book:1) There is no table of contents. This makes easily jumping to content of interest difficult, and is requiring that I fill my highlights with section headings.2) There are formatting issues such as section headings not having margins, tables having odd alignment and wrapping (which breaks highlighting), note sections which look like they should be formatted differently but aren't, etc.I would encourage the authors and/or publisher to work on these flaws and release an update. If such an update is released I will happily re-visit my review.

This is THE must-own CSS book. At over 1000 pages, it’s not exactly enjoyable bathtub reading, but is anything truly enjoyable these days anyway? Yep! This book! It covers everything about CSS you can imagine, including full coverage of CSS Grid, which is going to change everything. O’Reilly also sells individual sections of this book as mini books and I purchased most of those months ago. Those are EXCELLENT for bath reading, btw. I’ve been wanting to take this book to the office to show my coworkers, but I’m worried I may end up too sweaty by the time I carry it up 5 flights of stairs. It is that impressive! When it arrived at my house, my wife literally exclaimed, “WTF is that giant book?!” and now the chair I placed it on has a permanent dent in the cushion. So far, I’m like 4 chapters in (yes, I’m reading it cover-to-cover like a Nicholas Spark book) and I already feel like I’ve learned so many new things about selectors, specificity, and the cascade that I didn’t know before and I’ve been writing CSS forever. You can literally just open this book to any page and learn something new.I wish I could own this with a hard cover. I also wish I could shake Mr. Meyer’s and Ms. Weyl’s hands and thank them while also acknowledging the worn-down nubs that used to be their typing fingers.Buy this physical book! You will not regret it.Pro tip: buy some post-it flags while you’re at it because you are going to want to bookmark the heck out of it.

This 4th Edition of Eric Meyer & Estelle Weyl’s CSS book is very thorough and comprehensive. At over 1,000 pages, every topic that I wanted to study is included. I’m planning on using this new CSS book as a reference book so being able to locate specific topics fairly quickly is important. The Table of Contents is laid out in a very detailed format along with the page numbers. To find something, you can easily just look at the Table of Contents and then flip to the page. Also the book has a comprehensive Index that lists pretty much everything you’ll be looking for right there. As a test, I looked in the Index for some random topics and found all of them listed in the Index with the page numbers. The book includes 3 Appendixes.Appendix A – Animatable PropertiesThe properties included here are the properties given in the CSS Transitions specification and are CSS2.1.Appendix B – Basic Property ReferenceProperties are listed by name and are in alphabetical order. Example, picked at random:Propertyword-breakDefault valuenormalValue syntaxnormal |break-all|keep-allInhYAnimYAppendix C – Color Equivalence TableThis table lists the Color Name, RGB decimal, RGB percentage, HSL and Hexadecimal for about 4 pages worth of colors. You can look up colors by name and it serves as a quick reference for finding a color code to type in your style sheet. I’m going to look through my other CSS books and discard some in favor of this new one.

Extremely complete reference. Well organized. This is not a textbook to learn from (it is not organized like that). This is a reference book for someone who already knows a lot of CSS.Why pay for this book when you can just look up stuff on the web? Good question. The answer is the material is explained here in a way that provides more depth, context, and completeness than it is on the best websites I use (HTML5Doctor, MDN, W3C, and W3Schools.) And while sites like CSS Tricks are great, they only work if the question you have has been covered by them. This book covers everything CSS.

I have been working with CSS since it first came out and have worked to improve my knowledge with each new level as it was introduced. But, after getting just barely started in this book, I found a whole bunch I did not know about CSS 2.1 and CSS 3. If you only want one definitive guide to help you develop CSS skills, this is certainly it..Eric Meyer is always a pleasure to read. He writes in a manor that is easy to read, and his high level of knowledge of a subject shines throughout this book. It IS a long read, and many parts you may have to read 2 or 3 times to absorb the content.I am only about 1/2 way through, but have already incorporated much of what I have learned so far to greatly improve readability and other issues on the web sites I manage.Recommend this highly for any developers ready to go the next step. Makes no difference the scripting language you use, we all need better CSS skills.
